deGrom Tommy John surgery

Well....s##t..
-
This is terrible. I'm a Met fan that wanted him and the Rangers to do well. Rangers may still, since this looks like a magical season for them, but if they had Jake, who knows?
-
The most predictable news in MLB this year, but still sad.
-
Mets knew what they were doing lol

Sure hope he whips it. Seeing this made me think back to pitchers who came back after this…beginning with Tommy John himself - he kicked major [censored] after he came back. David Wells comes to mind also. I’m pretty sure he’s already had this surgery once back in college perhaps?
They should call it “Slider Surgery”

Mets dodged a bullet this time. Great pitcher, but this is now the 4th straight year he hasn't had more than 15 starts in a season. Wonder if teams will start offering shorter contracts if top shelf pitchers keep having this happen.
-
Honest question, how many pitchers have come back from a 2nd Tommy John surgery and were successful?

Eovaldi had a rocking season after his second one - pretty sure that was 2018 season when they won the big show. Clevinger had his second a few years back and hasn’t done too awfully bad. Neither of them are the caliber of DeGrom though. I predict he’ll come back and kick some bootay - he’s an intelligent pitcher can you imagine him as a closer? Ooh baby!
Just had a thought…what if Tommy John were to contract Lou Gehrig disease? Just messin

May have been deGrom that dodged the bullet…if he’d still been with the Mets and had the surgery in NY he may have gotten one of those rotten ligaments that came from a funeral home corpse hahaha! Remember when that happened there? Yuck!
He’s in Texas now so grade a select only baby

Henry Rowengartner came back from surgery and had a hell of a rookie year. Don’t believe it was Tommy John, though.

This is number 2 for him. Sad news

A lot of pitchers have come back from 2, heck Johnny Venter had 3 and blew it out a 4th time and had a different procedure for the 4th surgery.
-
I think his team mate Eovaldi has had it twice.
-
Even though I am a huge Met fan, I still love deGrom and would love to see him return to form. Just wondered if it was ever done before. Glad some pitchers have come back. Eovaldi was much younger when he had his second but only time will tell if deGrom can bounce back.

Once a Met always a Met in my book…well maybe not George Foster but I’m with you all the way. Let’s hope deGrom, as you stated, does indeed make it back and dominates…so long as he stays in the AL OR returns to our beloved Metropolitans.
Speaking of sub par TJ results - don’t ya just hate it for Thor? That interview he gave after that last shellacking he took literally had me in tears (they didn’t make it to my cheek tho so I’m still good) and he was just so exasperated.
What can I say - he’s a Dodger now so I can’t feel TOO sorry for him.

Unfortunately I think it will happen again, he wants to throw 100.
He won 2 cy young's throwing 96 the one year and 98 the other, he was great, but he wants to throw 100.
I don't think it's a coincidence that his arm and back troubles started the year he pushed it to 100.
When he comes back ,if he threw 98 I think he'd be great, but I think he keeps going for 100. -
Cue the people asking when he'll be taken out of the Rangers collections since he's not returning.

When is he being taken out of the Rangers collection since he is not returning?

I saw someone ask in another thread a couple hours ago.

We could put a man on the moon, but they can't come up with a brace to put on these pitcher's arms to allow them to throw with a torn UCL ?
ETA: they couldn't even find a UCL on RA Dickey as I recall........
