Expiring Cards is absolutely ridiculous

@BJDUBBYAH_PSN said It’s almost like people constantly whined about the game being the same year after, so they changed it. Weird.
So what.
Your hypothesis, is that people's complaints caused this year's content format? Even if it was, that is still no acceptable excuse.
SDS alone, is responsible for this ca$h grabbing, Set expiring, content trash.

SDS is a for profit company. They intend to make money. Sounds like your problem is with free market capitalism.

Silly comment. No one says they do not have the right. However, in order for them to have long term financial success, like any company, they should care about their product and consumer feedback.

Then hit em where it hurts and don’t buy their products.

I completely agree it’s stupid. Really stupid. I’m not sure what they were thinking. I could see different seasons and sets but restricting the cards and then only giving us one wildcard. Maybe if it was one wildcard per set it would be better. This doesn’t help lineup diversity at all. It makes it much worse.

I agee with OP....such an asinine rule.
However, this is financially beneficial to them, at least in the short term...
Since you cannot use expired cards in RS games, people will be more willing to buy stubs, as another method of replacing those expiring cards. This is nothing compared to the greed at EA. Try playing Madden - totally pay to win. Much better over here….

I agree they were but they also said it was a trial and error thing to see how it worked out
Like I said earlier I didn’t really think about it in the beginning bc it seemed so far away and I guess in the back of my mind I thought- “they wouldn’t do that”
And obviously that wasn’t the smartest on my part
But then seeing how heavy the offline grind is this year and the season coming to an end in about a month it really made me think about it more as of late
And I stand by what I said- it’s absolutely ridiculous to grind/spend for a 99 cracked card
Then not being able to use said card and then having to do that grind or spend money all over again for pretty much the same exact card all over again lol
It doesn’t even make sense when I say it out loud
No they said the trial and error thing to see how it worked out was about captains, not sets
Ok I’m able to say when I was mistaken which I was about the trial and error.. I believe
But I do remember them being pretty ambiguous about what further seasons/sets would consist of
So if I’m never able to use these set one cards again what’s the purpose of keeping them? What was the purpose of grinding for them and building their stats
Are they just going to make my Griffey and trout from season one obsolete and then turn around and gives us another griffey and trout that I need to pay/grind for again
These are my questions/gripes with this whole thing
Maybe wait until set/season 3 to see how it works?
Ok I took the bait and unblocked you becaue you’re so active in this thread so I’ll answer you question
They’ve already told us how season 3 works- which is the whole point of my thread

I get what you are saying, but I think this is the age we live in. Games are modeled after mobile games which are designed to keep people playing and spending currency.
There problem is the game is too generic. Ball in play dynamics havent changed in years which gets stale real quick year after year. Basically all these cards despite a few are practically all the same. This game is the game in town so I suck it up till another game comes out. Im curious to see if in the future another game say by EA comes out and how many people would leave this game.

@Dolenz_PSN said in Feature Premiere - Live Content & Diamond Dynasty (03/23):
So thanks for the video link above. I guess it all boils down to card releases. And yes, as mentioned, I am an offline player.
Here is the text from their graphic.
Some modes throughout Diamond Dynasty, like Ranked and Conquest, will require season squads made of of in-season cards., keeping squads fresh and competition fierce.
Dates listed for the seasons
Season 1 - Jan 1 - May 12 (Core and set 1 cards)
Season 2 - May 12 - July 7 (Core, Set 1 and Set 2)
Season 3 - July 7th - Sep 1 (Core, Set 2 and Set 3)Now as a Cardinal Fan who likes to use my Cardinals squad for many Conquests I see the following Set 1 Cards already
92 Wainwright (Captain)
97 Tommy Edman (Charisma)
90 Tyler O'Neill (WBC)
95 Arenado (WBC)
95 Goldschmidt (WBC)These are all labeled as Set 1 cards which means they all stop being relevant at the all star break.
Will we get new versions of those players? Will the Cardinals get a new team captain (or a new Wainwright card) for set 3? Will I spend countless time grinding a team affinity for 97 Tommy Edman just so he can be obsolete in July and then have to revert back to his live series card at that point?
How many will be disappointed when that awesome 99 Trea Turner WBC card can't be used in ranked after the all star break?
Sure they make it seem like you have options as you can have a single wild card where you can use a one player from a past set.
I have so many questions and concerns. If my fears come to pass then I could be frustrated and quit by my birthday (July 8th)
I play as much offline content as I can with my Cardinals theme team, which includes almost every conquest for the programs. Am I going to get replacements for my 99 Edmonds, 99 Walker, 99 Ozzie, 99 Gibson, my 97 Edman, 95 Goldschmidt, 95 Arenado, my captain Wainwright which may be my very first P5. "Congrats you finally got a player to P5 . Now stop using them"
And if there are replacements then how many more stubs is it going to cost me in addition to the stubs That I already paid for some of them.
It is SDS's way to get people to spend more stubs by double or even triple dipping on new 99 versions of a desired player every other season.
I am expecting a pretty huge backlash come the weekend of July 7th.

Yes, but we do not have to shut up and take it.
This card expiriation rule is pathetic, and I am glad they are getting called out on it.I don’t disagree, but the revenue from micro transactions is what will do the talking. I think it is great if people say they don’t like it, but if they still spend money on stubs, it will have no impact.
This is exactly what matters to these sports games, micro transactions. MLBTS was different, but now they are becoming more like other sports games. I no longer play any other game aside from The Show, and I will take their word that they are trying things. I do hope they come back to a game where I can play with my favorite cards all year, and not have to buy cards that I cannot use in whatever DD mode I want.

We will only be able to use them in the modes we don’t want to. Like vs cpu. Who is gonna use these cards in conquest and against cpu when they should be using the cards needed to complete pxp anyways. So yea they will be worthless fodder.
-
I get everyone’s frustration but I said this before and I’ll say it again- this game is being treated as 6 mini cycles. Instead of one long slow grind- we get 6 quickies (TWSS). If they waited to tell us these cards wouldn’t be useable until it was too late, that would be absurd. But it’s been written for months. Any of you spending money/stubs certainly didn’t have to if you thought it was unfair. there are so many solid cards that are free. I haven’t spent a dime other than the $100 to buy the game and I have a tons of solid 99s that are end game. Yes, I flip. They gave me that option and I took it.
Do I like this model? yes and no. I wish we had a happy medium. Maybe no sets and seasons and dozens of end game 99s from day 1. But I definitely got tired of grinding for cards that were trumped by better cards the min you got them. I’ll use guys like Chipper all year.
“But you can’t, they expire!” not for me, I’d rather get a root canal than only play online. Offline is how I enjoy my games or a league with friends. I love when someone says the majority of players play online. How do you know? Most of the people I know either prefer offline or like both.
Anyway, I’d also like to point out that sets 4-6 are probably really short time periods or with be overloaded with insane cards like the end game always is.

And not being able to use them in n ranked seasons, as I stated on the first page, is the reason this expiring card fiasco is ridiculous.

I'm more an RTTS guy, who just happens to dabble in DD enough to see what kind of squad the cards that keep showing up in my inventory would look like...
So I'm gonna "set the table" for my discussion / comparison with a couple of cards: Last year's Manga Randy Johnson, and this year's Charisma (and Set 1) Bob Gibson - both cards I got "day 1" of the respective years.
If I were to be a "competitive DD player", I would have had to stockpile my team with a bunch of "top of the line cards". Which, in the opening weeks of '22, were all "90 OVR" cards like Manga Randy. Meanwhile, this year, joining my 99 Gibson I also have 99 Webb, Lindor, and Hendserson...
Now fast forward to mid-may. In 22, they were releasing the what, 92 OVR cards? So I needed to constantly be grinding away, opening packs, "expensive" stuff (in time, money or both), to "keep up with the Joneses", and have the 92s to compete - or take a "slight" disadvantage by using my 90 Manga Randy as a 5th starter... This year, they're releasing "set 2" cards, but I can still use my Gibson (and other 99s) at full strength.
Fast forward to Mid July, when this year's Set 1 is due to go "obsolete"/unusable. By that point in '22, they were up to 94 maybe 95 OVR cards...
How useful was my day-1 90 Manga Randy be in that environment??? And how much "replacement spending" is necessary to keep up with the Joneses and their mid-july 94-packed rosters???
This year, I would be "allowed", via the wild card slot, to keep using that day 1 Bob Gibson, even though Webb/Lindor/Henderson etc. are "formally" consigned to the "dust bin" that all my earned early in '22 cards were effectively consigned to (90s vs 95s) by that point.
And even here in late May, my squad filled with mostly 95s and 97s (few high 80s in the bullpen) are just as competitive with a DD player who's stockpiled a full set of "set 2 diamonds", even though I haven't "picked up" many set 2 cards...
Admit it, "competitive" DD has always been a massive "resource sink" - though this year there's a bit of an illusion that you don't have to sink constantly, because you haven't had to churn your whole roster to load up on 92s and 93s yet.
-
I’ve been disappointed in this change since they announced it. Trying to give it a chance but I didnt even log into DD for the last 3 weeks of Season 1 because it seemed pointless to go after any Set 1 players when they’re just going to be worthless in July. I’d rather preserve my will to grind until I can get cards I can use for the majority of the cycle.
It’s a big L. I get what they tried, but limiting who we can use isn’t a great way imo. We need at least 1-2 more Wild Cards. Even if it’s just one pitcher, one hitter or something.
