....Is it frowned upon to back in and out of the pre-game menus to find a decent matchup online?

For as long as I can remember in this game online matchups for me are 50/50 playable because of lag. If I play a laggy game online I can't hit a high velocity fastball unless I completely guess and start my swing immediately as the ball is released. It's 100% a server issue, because I can hit fastballs in practice on HOF with ease, but can't hit one at all in AS online matches. Anybody who has played enough knows, you can notice if it's going to be a laggy game in the lineup/pitcher select screens before entering a game. If I never play the games with laggy pre-game menus I'm actually a decent hitter online. If I play every game without hand picking matchups, I get stuck playing half my games with unplayable lag and will lose interest in this game fast. My question is... Do you guys think this is a dirtbag move to do this? I like to play fair and feeling a little scummy if I go all year with this method, but after playing my first ranked season game with unbearable lag... it's not an option for me to not do this, unless I want to have a miserable experience online all year. Is it scummy or not guys???

Lastly... why in 2023 is this game still so bad online? Every game I play other than this is super smooth with zero issue with lag, and this game is like playing online when online first became a thing. Why is SDS so behind in their servers? Is this an issue for everybody??? I have great internet speeds and am hardwired into console. I can stream anything and play anything online without issue, except for this game. I love DD mode and baseball, but this is ridiculously bad.

I back out if the menu screen is laggy too. I don’t feel there’s anything wrong with, and you already know what the experience is if you go into the game, guaranteed lag.

Yeah... it just feels like cheating, but it's not my fault the servers are horrible. I'm doing it all year and hopefully can keep myself engaged in ranked seasons. I've played 1 ranked game and it was pathetic how bad the lag was... in 11 innings, I think I had like 4 hits because I couldn't hit the fastball no matter how early I was swinging, it was late. It's like day and night for me when there's lag or not... I can hit the fastball easily online in smooth games. Wish they would just upgrade the servers instead of having to do this all year.

At what point does backing out cost you a win? If you back out at that point does it register as a loss?

The reason I ask is because SDS has banned users for too many 0-0 games online where no pitches were thrown. They view it as win trading which they frown upon.

No... it doesn't give a win or loss because it's in the pre-game menu when you can pick your starting pitcher and adjust your lineup. You can tell when it's going to be a bad laggy game because that menu will lag or delay as you navigate through it. I just back out and keep searching for a game that the menu navigates smoothly and those games have no lag and you can actually hit and pitch like a normal game. I would hope they wouldn't ban you for doing this because some online games are literally unplayable due to lag. If they don't want us doing it... they should use better servers. It's the only game I play that gives me any issues with lag, I have great internet, PS5, and good monitor... it's 100% an SDS issue.

Servers aren't really involved much, it's a peer to peer connection, if you don't know, that means one hosts and the other connects to them, so it's basically a function of the players internet quality.

The only thing that makes me back out are the idiots that have no life and will click for 30-45 seconds. Then they finally choose their pitcher and just sit there. Makes me want to reach through and slap a dude.

I would agree. For me laggy is a bit of a concern on hitting, but it's on baserunning where it really hurts me. Especially when playing the people from Dominican/PR and Venezuela.

I basically have to accept that I have to go base to base no matter how easily it gets to the wall because the screen will show the outfielder not at the ball yet, but when the screenshot switches to me pulling into the base I am out by a mile.

This happens a lot in BR. It's like some people don't realize you can setup your lineup before entering a matchup. When I'm searching for a good connection... it takes a few clicks and 5 seconds max and I'm ready to back out or play.

Yes... I've read that here before, but still call it servers. I still don't understand why they don't correct it... game is great, but the online lag is far worse than any other game I've played. I bet a lot of players have tried and quickly left this game because the online H2H experience is unbearable sometimes.
