Why Does SDS Get a Pass...and EA and 2K don't?

@fubar2k7_PSN said in Why Does SDS Get a Pass...and EA and 2K don't?:
I repeat. It hasn’t been long enough. We aren’t at set 2 yet. Once we get to set 2 there will be more variety. Every version of the game most players utilize the best available players because most players want to win. Once they have choices they didn’t have before and more available best players it could be different. We don’t know because we haven’t gotten there yet. Then once we get to set 2 and 3 and that WC comes into play it’ll throw people choosing anyone from set 1 into the mix. Once again we haven’t gotten there yet. It’s been literally 13 days since full launch.
Variety in what regard?
They've already pushed out all these 99s. No one will be HAPPY with anything less than a 99.
And let's quit playing around and stop calling some of these cards 99s. Because they aren't. In reality, they are more like 115s.
Like it or not, there was also a large segment of the community who felt that the BEST part of Diamond Dynasty and playing Ranked Seasons was at the BEGINNING stages of the game. This is a very popular sentiment echoed from players in DD, MUT, and MyTeam.
SDS completely removed that part of the mode this season. Why?
-
@MetalNuck_XBL said in Why Does SDS Get a Pass...and EA and 2K don't?:
No ultimate team mode will ever be perfect and please everyone, let’s get the obvious out of the way.
I believe MLB has a much higher player base that sticks to DD offline than say NBA, Madden, Fifa and NHL. You can get a lot of great cards by never touching online. You can in the other games as well but from my experience the rewards in MLB are handed out more frequently than the others.
At the end of the day, when the baseball season is over and the player base drops significantly it won’t matter and the collection for everyone will start again in 2024. I don’t buy stubs, or VC or whatever currency EA decides to use because of this. They are virtual cards that are useless when the new game comes out. However, I don’t care if people choose to spend hundreds to obtain packs and cards, your money, do as you please!
Just enjoy the game, if you’re not having fun or it is just making you angry, there are thousands of other games out there to try.
Great point. I agree with you. Many more Offline players who love this new way of doing things, mostly because they don't play online.
I'm the same as you when it comes to all these micro transactions. I learned my lesson playing 2K17 or 18...all those little $5 and $10 VC purchases added up when I finally checked my bank statement.
It's frustrating this year because I feel as though they've really "dumbed down" the mode. I like these modes, but really start to pull away from them once things devolve into ridiculously juiced up players at every position. Where's the fun or strategy in that?
I still think the ONLY thing SDS (and 2K) need to add is some kind of capped mode. DD already has it for Battle Royale and Events. Why not a 9 inning version for the nerdier baseball fans who don't just want to play 26 flawless players against someone else with the same?
-
@IBrooKBosS_XBL said in Why Does SDS Get a Pass...and EA and 2K don't?:
I would say I agree, but they aren't money hungry. you could get all these cards just by playing the game... unlike 2K and EA, with that said I'm not a fan of the crazy cards right off rip. I liked the idea of playing with low 90's for a month, 93-95's for a few months.. and 99's at the all star break. I liked the old way of doing things...
Thanks for the honest, constructive feedback.
What's your "take" on some type of capped mode?

It’s almost like the game is 2 weeks old and you don’t know how the rest of it will play out.
We don't have to wait to see how it will play out. It will play out exactly the way it has so far after 2 weeks. And then it will repeat.
You'll see the SAME cards used by everyone. Maybe the cards will change, but the lack of variety will not.
The Captains cards and other cards will largely be ignored when it comes time to put together a lineup for Ranked Seasons games.
And as more content is added, you might see a little more variety, but it won't be variety from a ratings standpoint. People will just replace one 99 with a "better" 99.
Oh man...how captivating and strategic! Just a bunch of Theo Epstein's and Billy Beane's around this community!
No one is making you play the game, which sounds like you’re not a fan of. Literally no one.
Snappy comeback. Really strong argument you make there, bud.
They ruined this game mode, and anyone who complains should just shut up and quit. Gotcha!
Don't worry. I won't be playing this garbage for much longer.
I'd rather play both team modes from EA and 2K too. At least there is some kind of strategy built into them, especially if you aren't spending money (NMS).
It's almost like SDS decided to make this mode too easy to appease their crybaby fanboys.
They ruined it for YOU, I’m just happy to be able to play the game without having to rush to complete collections to be able to compete with those who already completed it.

I just don’t see how strategy is gone because SDS released a game with 99 overall cards available on day one. People still have to grind their teams, those who play more will get to those cards faster… what does a grind factor has to do with strategy and team building?

Because you can field a competitive team by just playing a good amount and not paying a cent. This game has a lot of rough edges. Being pay to play is NOT one of them.
So turning the game into this is the answer?
Now every team is JUICED, so it's a level playing field...?
Sorry, I much prefer what 2K does. Sure they cater to those who want to spend money. But I can build a solid team and improve it and customize it over time without spending a DIME. And then when I jump into an online game, they have matchmaking that doesn't put my 85 OVR rated team against someone with a 98 OVR rated team.
Doesn't happen in this game. Just made the game mode dull, boring, and repetitive. I should go thru my game logs and track who is in my opponents lineups. It's like the same 6 to 10 guys.
This new way of doing things just made META-only lineups a thing from Day 1 of pre-launch until EndGame. It made it so there is literally ZERO team building strategy now in this mode.
They added Captains and boosts...and then made them virtually irrelevant because you're still playing at a disadvantage against these juiced-up 97/99 cards.
2k really takes a lot of strategy, people cheese all the time lowering their team overalls. enough with the "strategy" talk, theres so much skill required in this game, its not just 99 card and press x, being able to actually hit, have an approach, pitch, set up you bench to platoon, bull pen, etc.

Because they give out a lot of packs and rewards for playing the game. And if you do decide to spend money you can buy the currency and not gamble. Full stop. That’s the answer to your question.
This game certainly has its warts. And anybody who isn’t up their butts call them out on buggy stuff but it’s still leaps and bounds above both EA and 2K and it isn’t close.
The other games give out plenty of rewards.
Basically, what it really comes down to...is that they make it EASY to get the best cards in the game. They've dumbed down this mode soooooo much for all the simpletons that they love it. Given how most of the idiots I play online play...it makes a lot of sense, tbh.
And for years, all I heard was how much SMARTER everyone who plays this game is than those who play MUT and MyTeam. I couldn't disagree more.
No they don’t. Just because you say something is true doesn’t mean it is.
When 2k dropped this year they had the trophy case which took countless hours to get a centerpiece to get a pink diamond that was outclassed in 2 weeks from pack cards. To get the top cards it would take a laughable amount of hours.
Madden rewards are slightly better than 2k but that’s just because they let you get the second tier cards easier. A huge amount of their players just gamble on rerolls to try to make their coins for big cards. But solos give a second or third tier card every promo basically. And to actually play the game online you get peanuts. They used to give out good rewards with packs and stuff but stopped it because of farm accounts. Madden would be closer to MLB the show than you think if they could have stopped coin transferring a few years ago.
As for just giving out all the cards EASY on this game the biggest griped I’ve seen people have is getting the all star rewards for just playing the game and that’s just too easy. But take a look at the program. To get 100 points it takes 200 IP. That’s over 22 games played. At 40 minutes per game that is 15 hours played. That’s quite a bit of game time. Maybe you have just been programmed to not respect your time.
Lastly, I always joke about 2k and madden players because they say it should be harder to get cards. Then they spend $1,000 on packs to skip the hard part. Don’t try to turn mlb the show into this games just go play those games if you like them so much. But based on your last post I’m guessing you just want to bash people and don’t really care about any counterpoint to your flimsy point.
-
Well, bye
-
This game actually works (mostly) out the gate, unlike the last 3-4 Madden games.
I don't play online but I can make a serviceable team for nothing.

This. All of it.
I've stopped buying / playing Madden altogether. I buy 2k every other yr just to play offline MyTeam to get my basketball fix in.
To me (a non-competitive mostly offline gamer) - MLBTS is BY FAR the most rewarding sports video game and it's not even close. I don't have a ton of free time but I'm still able to get most of the offline programs done. I enjoy the "grind" and playing with the different cards along the way to advance in the various programs.
I'm not saying it's for the OP...but I really enjoy the game and I love the 99's on day 1 as well. This is the best version of the game yet IMO. I've even got 3 of my buddies hooked on it this yr - and they've never bought the game before. It's just a fun - stress-free game.

Lmao. So let’s be like 2k where there’s 17 versions of a player. Or like EA where you have to wait 6 months sometimes for a card to get upgraded. Go play Nintendo bro
wait til you find out this game is also available for Nintendo.. lol
-
The reason they get a pass, is the cornballs worrying about giving them out, play offline and SDS just gave them 99 overalls they can use to destroy the Orioles.
There isn't a more pay to win sports game at the moment but take it from one of the “I haven’t played an EA game in 7 years” guys they also seem to know what there always in about. They don’t even know everything in The Show came from other games besides conquest which is literally just a stolen game lmfao.
Programs used to run all year, now they are a two month fortnite battle pass you need to do nothing to complete but sign in everyday and do a 10 minute challenge fit for a 8 year old.
Honestly might be the lowest IQ community around. The Easter egg hunt was literally to much thinking for some.

I'm personaly absolutely loving this year of MLB The Show.
There's no variety in cards? I can't disagree more... I have so many very good cards right now at each position, that I really don't know who to start first, this is great. And we still don't know, what cards will come in Set 2.I also don't know, what is that strategy in team building OP is talking about? I played lot of MUT, HUT and Fifa before and I don't see any strategy in team building there. You just use the best cards available to you by grind or money transactions, that's all in my opinion.
The true difference between DD and other Ultimate modes is in the quality of cards you can grind for free. And this is much, much better in DD than anywhere else

people cheese in 2k using lower overall cards on their bench and a 5 man rotation of starters. Lower team overall lower matchmaking against other teams, thats how 2k does matchmaking.

Just look at Twitter where multiple MyTeam creators started playing Diamond Dynasty for the first time and are RAVING about how rewarding the game is just for playing the game. 2K is a scam that thrives on micro transactions with <2% odds of pulling top cards in their packs that are $5 a pack when using VC. You grind just to get small amounts of MT to the point they banned half their community for buying MT when it was a problem they caused by their own greed.

prorams did not use to run all year, they had an XP reward path that did, but we use to have inning programs that yes were available all year, but you could only earn program stars for the current program other than the program stars given within a program. So not much has really changed.
