Because they have only 2 gold players and and even then they are only 80s, and 2 silver players. That makes them the choice to finish for most players so with everyone trying to finish them the price climbs on the their players.

i got him today and you can scatter random reds pitchers to get his boost - i got the Tier 2 boost for dibbles this will carry me in RS and events for now - its one of the best team collections and this morning it cost me around 15K to do for the whole team

Prices are always higher on non-diamonds for the bad teams. See also SF, OAK, CHIC, etc. Nothing to do with the rewards.
