I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a difference between zone and directional hitting. In years past, I would switch between the two with conquest maps. I started this year with directional (I know, but I have kids and it’s easier for when I’m laying around with them), but there is no pop at all with directional. Meat ball? Lazy fly ball. Guess the pitch? Hard ground out. I think I only hit two homeruns in 10 conquest games.

What I’m getting at… Directional appears to be nerfed hard with this year’s version. Stick with zone hitting, even if you’re a casual.

I was honestly gona make a post about this exact same thing. I’ve always used directional cause I’m not that good.

Just completed a mini season mini seasons and won the championship but I was really really alarmed on how very little home runs I got. I got 10-15 at the most and that’s with playing on Varsity & rookie mode.

I thought it was maybe just cause of the players I was using but I’ve also had my big time hitters get perfect perfect only for it to be a fly out on the track. I have multiple hitter with 90+ power so I don’t think rating is the case. It’s definitely SDS doing it. Sucks cause I’m very terrible at zone and enjoy sitting back and just hitting A when I wanna swing.

played 3 conquest games w/ directional and it does feel like there's no pop in the batting.

Edit - I played WBC moments and using the normal swing not doing much. But then I switched to power swing using directional and got more pop.

Not sure if they made a big difference between power and normal swings.

Then switched to Zone and it was a little better but still, the balls hit were weak. I think the htiting is just weak right now.

Doing a simple 4TB moment is taking forever. I had to switch to timing just to pass it after 10 tries.

But I suck at Zone so if Directional is less power on purpose not sure how to play.

I still prefer Directional, but then again I don’t play much online, and b) I’m terrible.

I haven’t had much time to play since early release, but doing moments last night, there were definitely swings I felt like I really crushed it, and then there are moments I’m like WTF is wrong with this guy?

    Wanted to add to this.

I started conquest - did rookie on STEAL part - i barely can score 1 run with directional default camera. Last year rookie conquest is really easy with directional.

Then I switched my next few games to Zone. I changed the camera to that god awful strike zone cam all the twitch and youtube people use. The one where the batters junk is always in the way lol. Anyway, I am scoring easy now, like 4-5 runs per 3 inning conquest games.

This will suck if I have to switch over to Zone. I have been playing MLB The Show since the first one came out on PS2 and only switched to directional about 3 games ago because I was getting too old for Zone.

Seems like the hitting isn't nerfed when using zone like it is with directional.

First year I used zone I couldn't move the pci either, it takes a lot of practice.

I went back to full directional with my zoom camera view today.
    I am hitting much better.

I think maybe i'm getting use to the game now. It's much tougher to hit and yes, the power is nerfed, but maybe just stick with it on directional as the game is harder this year to hit and you may just need to get use to it.

Also, still on the WBC program and now I'm getting to use higher rated cards so the offense is maybe picking up because of that.

I must say this years gameplay is really top notch. this is the biggest jump in gameplay since MLB 17. I know I said hitting is nerfed but maybe it was too OP in the previous versions. I really like the challange in this years game. It feels more authentic where if you think thru the pitches and you get a hit you really feel rewarded.

Accidently found a way to help with directional hitting timing.

I was doing the WBC showdown for the millionth time and almost gave up. So I just took a chance and changed the camera angle to Fish Eye using directional.

This HELPED SO MUCH! I got my power back in my swings. Especially off speed pitches I crushed. Then I tried Fish eye 2 and had similar success.

Give it a try and see if it helps with directional hitting. Seems the WBC Showdown is harder than playing conquest.
