Shaping up to be a big L this year.

I can see an issue with TTs . Not sure how that would play out after the season ends. Especially because in a theme team you are limited in cards.
I'm not the biggest DD guy so don't care as much but you have to give SDS some props for trying something new.
The gameplay alone vs 22 is worth the purchase imop.

Cards are going to be usable for 4 months at a time, 3 if we are assuming the minimum on the 6-8 thing. We are going to be mid-July at least before this even becomes an issue. We haven't seen it in action yet but I'm guessing far more cards are "core" than not too
I don’t see the point in them doing this at all. What benefit is there to this other than just making people buy and use cards they don’t necessarily want? Why do they need to drop 99s on day one every year? I don’t see anything wrong with a slow progression ultimate team mode. The issues in the past has been they can’t keep their ratings in their pants and drop 100+ attributes immediately.
One of the biggest complaints I saw in 22 was that people had to use cards they didn’t want to use for so long and hardly ever used their main squad. Now it’s forced into Ranked beyond just the programs and events.

I haven’t had time to check out everything going on with ‘23 but the changes to Gameplay and the new design of DD are encouraging and refreshing to me. My biggest concern is what you mention. Last year the game was designed to keep people always working for cards that had little purpose and you had to do that because you knew you would need them for something down the line. It was to the point that it completely hindered my time playing modes I would have preferred.
It seems like this change in the design of DD is to continue this trend…but I know that is what SDS wants. They want people stuck in the game constantly working towards something. However, if it is done in an engaging way, this may not be a completely bad thing.

So far, everything they are rolling out seems like a big W. But let’s talk about what you’re saying. Admittedly, I’m not exactly sure what the seasons and sets are supposed to fix or encourage but I don’t see it as a detractor. Personally, I don’t see how it’ll change much. Like it’s been said, until season 3, you can use any card. I believe they said Core will include All Star Cards among others so I imagine many of the best cards will be Core or Wild Card and by set 3, those cards will be better than the first two sets. So again, I really don’t see how this affects anything, or really what the point of this particular feature is. But we shall see.
Everything else? Big Wins!
Last year I heard many complaints and requests-
- Improve Gameplay- from what I hear in the tech test, they’ve done that.
- Do more with Mini Seasons- several new features added
- Add the Negro League players- a whole new game mode featuring those players in Storylines.
- Make the programs longer so we don’t run out of stuff to do- every main program has no path ending- keep getting rewards.
- Bring back TA- Looks like it’s back.
- Add rewards to Co-op- they’ve done that.
There are some people that will never enjoy the game, some that will no matter how bad it gets, some that like to vent but secretly love it anyway (I’ve done that). It’s all valid.
Um…. What were we talking about?

MLB 23!
So far, I'm willing to give SDS the benefit of the doubt. I will take the extra time to build an effective team for the few RS games I'll play. I won't mind mixing up my squads during the year. Lots of interesting stuff. PLUS TEAM AFFINITY!!!
I played the Tech Test, and I did like the game play overall. I'll be online Match 23 at 11:58 pm EST.

It affects theme teams. Sure the boosts are cool, but it will make it nearly impossible to run a usable theme team when a lot of cards are going to be unusable eventually. I know not everyone plays DD like I do, but it’s a definite deal breaker for me. It’s basically the only thing they could’ve done to make me not buy the game. It just seems like a totally unnecessary change no one asked for.
And how many times have they said they improved gameplay and then eventually revert back to their old ways again? If last year hitting was playing “as intended” then they will find a way to minimize the skill gap and boost the RNG effect. The game is going to play very similarly every year until there’s a dedicated next gen version.
You’re right though. There are some things that look to be great changes, unfortunately the season specific cards outweighs the good in my opinion.
-
I’m guessing they’ll increase Wild Cards as the season goes on, remember it’s an experiment .

I get it and if it is a huge chunk of cards then you are right. But I doubt it will be. From what I remember the saying - LS are Core, the All Star game cards are core, collection rewards are core and plenty more. I’ll bet a long distance beer that these sets are selective and specific and you will hardly notice. And again, not even an issue till like July.
-
I’ll take that beer bet and raise you one!!!!!

Not that there is a lack of flamethrowers but it might be nice (for you guys)to not have to face Ryan and Randy after awhile.

I don’t know, guys. I think I need to take (at least) the next month off from these forums. Make no mistake, there are some awesome dudes who post here (and several of those awesome dudes are even in this very thread!). But toxic negativity just feels like it has gradually become the default setting around here. It’s just a freakin bummer. I don’t know what else to say. It’s just depressing.
The game and the company are far from perfect. But good grief, SDS can’t do anything right in the eyes of some of their “fans.” If SDS keeps things the same, people will gripe because it’s “a copy/paste of last year’s game.” If they shake things up, people preemptively declare it an “L” a month before release.
Who knows — maybe Sets & Seasons will be the worst thing to happen to baseball since Craig Kimbrel’s facial hair. But why not just wait and see? Better yet! Why not get excited about the prospect of something new and go into it with positivity and optimism? You might be surprised to find how easy it is to enjoy things when you actually want to enjoy them.
To all the cool dudes — hopefully I’ll be back closer to launch. And I hope everyone else finds something in life they can enjoy. (Dogs are always a safe bet. Anne Hathaway movies are great. I hear good things about heroin. I’m sure you’ll all find something that’s right for you).

Anne Hathaway movies are great
To be fair, in an earlier post in this thread, I said that "I'm willing to give SDS the benefit of the doubt" and "TEAM AFFINITY!!!". Three exclamation points. I'm still optimistic.
However, even if this game turns out to be, and I paraphrase, "a less than pleasurable experience", I will NOT turn to an Anne Hathaway movie for solace. If this game does turn out to be "a big L" this year (which I don't think it will), I will henceforth say things like "Anne Hathaway is the MLB 23 of movie starlets". If MLB turns out great, I will say "Jessica Chastain is the MLB 23 of fine actresses".
P.S. If Robin Yount isn't a Brewers' "Captain", @SchnauzerFace_MLBTS and I RIOT.

buddy i appreciate your optimism i really do - to say that gameplay will be better though - this is a huge stretch - the tech test was just awful - i HOPE you are right but i have a feeling this is going to be another crash

Community: it’s the same game every year
SDS: makes some big changes
Community: but we don’t like these changes even tho we have no idea how it will effect anything! Wahhhhhh! This is why game companies are damned if they do damned if they don’t . I’m not saying SDS is great or any of these changes will be good but we honestly have no idea how sets, seasons or any of that will effect us. For all we know we won’t even notice when set 1 retires because none of those cards are in our lineup anymore, it could also be a nightmare because there are a lot of good cards left from that set. We honestly don’t know yet so throwing a tantrum over it is premature.

It's baseball man. Not Fortnite. There isn't much to do besides tighten up the gameplay and graphics.
It's clear the demographic The Show is going for these days.
MLB needs new fans. We love in a world where you can subscribe to something called MLB TV and not even be able to watch the team you actually subscribed for because of blackouts.

bless up my bro - i hear you completely !!!! i have my morning rituals where i check this forum for years now, same as the local news - the general glaze is negative for sure, and i try to frame that when coming online - less gaming + more real life is a great combo as i age - that being said, sometimes throwing a ball around the screen is fun too - have a great rest of winter
