Yeah it took me a long time to build a Phillies theme team that would have any chance in Ranked .

Feel like most disapproval is coming from the expectations of its Theme team or god squad or bust.
I like the idea of being able to use 3 or 4 cards from a specific team/theme and giving them a small boost with captain and rounding out the rest with your Trouts, Ruths, Bretts, etc.
How many times have we seen SPs get released with decent stuff (pitch mix/velo/break) but terrible H/9 so people shy away from it. Imagine being able to boost that personal fav card H/9 up to a useable level.
I think its going to give people a lot of options to stay competitive and like you, I hated waiting until September/Post season for all the best cards to come out.

The lineup is off the charts. Pirates need more pitching cards.
I’m a mark for Kiner even though lost of people don’t use his card. Man I hit opposite field tanks with him. And McCutchen was my best card this year

What I didn't like is the MA, a guy in April hits .400+ with 11 hr and a .800+ slg and gets a 90-92, but a guy in Aug/Sept hits .340 with 7 hr and gets a 97 just because of time of year

It only sucks for building a full 25-man TT because you won’t be able to use a lot of the cards by the end of the year with the seasons/set cards. But if you just like using 4-5 from one team it’ll be cool.

I’m a big fan of TTs for sure. It really seems like this will only be an issue with set 1 during season 3:
July 7-Sept 1 and only in Ranked. We know Live series collection cards are Core as well as the LS cards which you can Captain boost. They said there will be other Core cards which they want to be a surprise. My money is on TA.But, it will be a bummer if you can’t use some of your favorite cards because they are Set 1. It’s a really odd move, I’m hoping it makes more sense down the road but for now, it’s a lot of effort for very little effect.

Played today with Phillies TT and would have probably won if Trea Turners card had more power . Had two just early hits on the pci center that both came up short. It is odd he doesn't have a better card than a 89 though.
Just an example of how the captain probably change the outcome of the game.

Wait, which game are you playing? Doesn’t he have a 99 Postseason card? And if you mean 23, how? I thought the tech test ended 4 days ago.

Playing 22. I looked in marketplace and the highest I saw was the 89 card. Maybe filter is broken. I'll look again.
You can actually play the CPU in the tech test still.

Oh, yeah Turner is in the Postseason program but his card is amazing. Not as great as last year but still well worth it considering all the other great cards along the way. I think he’s pretty early since the Dodgers lost in the Divisional round. Sorry, I will always love saying that.

I always use a theme team even at the start my concern is that if they push them too much it seems like then everyone is gonna run one which already a problem they have now with everyone using the same cards

Running theme teams is not the same as running the same cards. SDS said, that they will watch, if 1 specific captain makes one theme team too common. Then they will adjust this. I guess and I hope, lineup diversity will be pretty good

YES……….this too!!!!! I freakin hated that!! Like the Kwan Now card from last April. Dude went 5-5 in a game and got a gold 84 or something. I’m sorry but if you go 5-5 that gets at least a 98 in my mind. I agree 100%!! Hopefully that changes!

My guess is that with the new set-system, MA are going to go up … which I like. If a MA-player is having a heck of a stretch, an April-guy should be just as good as a May guy (especially if the May-guy has a worse stretch)
