Randy Johnson 88 vs Randy Johnson 99
-
Tell me your thoughts. I don't really think there is that much a difference. Some of his stats are slightly increased on the 99, but both cards are equally hard to hit. They share the same breaks practically. The 99 has outlier and the the 88 doesnt but both hit over 100 mph. The 99 has a splinter and the 88 has a change up. So that makes no sense as the change is a better pitch. My question is...is it really worth it to waste like over a million stubs to do this or just keep using my 88 that plays as a 93 right now?
Honestly, I think the lower diamond of Maddux is better than his higher tiered diamond... so this could be the same.
Looking for opinions on those that have the 99 and have used the 88.

The per 9s are better on the 99 version so it’s more likely your opponents get hits/hrs when they make contact. I haven’t used either, but I have faced both and the 99 is definitely better. Velocity seems a bit faster and pci is smaller with the 99. I imagine the 99 is easier to control as well
-
Used both
The 99 has an extremely noticeable amount of better control than the 88
Also the 99 has an extra pitch but not exactly sure atm
99 Randy is the best pitcher I’ve used since playing DD outside Tiant. He’s worth it

When did they have Tiant?
Back in 17 when I first started, he had a 99 All Star series card
Knuckleball primary with high 90s four seamer and a couple other breaking pitches
A nightmare to face

Sounds fun to use, but I’m glad I wasn’t there in ‘17 to face him

I was brand new to DD and really didn’t know how to get him so I never got to use him lol. struck out plenty of times against him
His card and a couple other knucklers led to community complaints for how cheesy/difficult they were so I don’t believe we’ve had knuckleballers since 17 or 18 at the latest

18 was the last time I believe. funnily enough though Niekro has been in the game the entire time in franchise though

I’ve also noticed that over time but I’m honestly glad they got removed
Unless they can reprogram the knuckleball to occasionally not have any knuckle/break like irl, and make it a little easier to hit, I’d rather them stay out of DD. That’s just me though

I think the 99 has outlier and 88 doesn't, so the 99 can hit 102 more often. And as stated the per 9s are better so the opponent PCI will be smaller.
The only place the 88 is better is having a change up. The 99 doesn't have a change up.
-
Does the 88 have the slurve? That is another thing that makes the 99 so dangerous is being able to tunnel that slurve and slider since there is like a 10 mph difference in the two.
-
The 88 is an extremely worse card than 99 lol- how is this even a question

This whole thread has to be a troll right?

I pitch with the 88 which is rated currently as a 93 and shut down the opposition just like someone does with the 99. Its not a joke thread. They both have slurves..the difference is my 93 has a change up...and the 99 has a splitter. I think they are pretty equal. Im asking for people who have ACTUALLY used both. Both cards hit over 100 mph and have the 99 break on both.

Biggest difference is Takashi Randy doesn't have outlier.
Then there's the better attributes specifically H/9 and the splitter instead of the change up. (I think Splitters are harder to read but that might just be me).
As someone who only got 99 Randy last month, I think there is a very noticeable difference between the two, especially with the much better lineups out now.

The splitter is harder to pick up, but its also harder for me to execute on PPP. But yes Outlier and per 9s.
-
Outlier, per 9s and especially control are all huge differences. How you find the strike zone with 88 Randy is beyond me

I make adjustments on the angles of the throws.
All of this info from you guys was helpful in accessing what I must do. Guess im spending over a million in stubs to get the 99 now. Thank you.
Should I hold off yet...Will the live series cards fall in prices?

Well, SD will be cheaper when Tatis is removed from 40 man. Stub sale has had prices up. So right this second is not the most ideal time.

@TheNinjaRaven_PSN said in Randy Johnson 88 vs Randy Johnson 99:
Who are you missing? As noted, Tatis should be getting moved due to his suspension which will drop the price of SD collection which will only happen on Fridays roster update. (I'd recommend grabbing Hader and the other diamonds in case they decided to go up in price).
I don't think prices are going to change that much unless there is a flash sale. Trouts the lowest he's been all year. Same with Ohtani, DeGrom and Judge.
