More Legend Cards
-
I feel like this year they have pushed current player flashbacks out a way too often compared to different versions of legends cards. Looking through the possible all-star cards there are so many that already have mid 90's cards they could have created legend cards with. There are numerous legends and "retired" players in the free-agent pool that they could be making cards for instead.
With All-star game cards, Topps now, FOTF, Monthly Awards, and finest they should avoid making prime/awards/2nd half version cards of current players until after the season. The awards bogarts, Allstar Betts, and Allstar goldy cards, for example, could instead have been a different version of a legend that only has one card since release.

Noticed this the other day, too, when I was filling out a lineup for legend PXP for the program. I had like 6 possible catchers and 2 of them were Mauer. Way more flashbacks than in past (feels like) and fewer legends. Maybe that’s because of their slow drip in making overalls higher as year goes on. Also feels like a lot fewer sig, award, milestone being released than the single year, actual Topps cards.

This year is just Yankees. Both flashbacks and legends. I get they have a storied franchise and have a lot of great players to choose from, but there’s been plenty of chances to expand to different teams and they just give us an Urshela flashback instead. (Just one example)

It is not that easy. SDS has to come into agreement with every single legend. I am sure this can be tedious and most likely with some it can be expensive

I am not talking about adding new legends, I am talking about more cards for legends they already have rights too. I am not an attorney with knowledge of NIL, but I assume most can have more cards without additional costs. Just hilarious to me that the game cycle is almost halfway through and there is only 1 lowish diamond version of the following legends in the game:
Jackie Robinson, Hank Aaron, Jim Thome, Robin Yount, Ken Griffey Jr, Ricky Henderson, Lary Doby, Tony Gwynn, Cal Ripkin Jr, Pedro Martinez, Chipper Jones, Mickey Mantle, Vlad, Nolan Ryan, etc.
These are just some of the legendary HOFers that come to mind and yet we have multiple versions of equal rating flashbacks that will get even more cards due to the current player programs continuously released.
I like the idea of more takashi-type series where they can just be given 94-96 overall cards that are fun and more fictional each year. Instead of all given 99 overalls in September when Jacob Stallings also gets a 99...

I agree with you to a point. I'm a big fan of lagend cards as well as active cards. One thing to keep in mind, some of these players get a low diamond flashback because their LS card is a bronze, silver or gold. A lot of the people you named already started with a 90s diamond like Gywnn 93, Hank 94, Vlad has an 88 and a 97. There's just a lot more room to maneuver with flashbacks as their starting card is often times gold or lower. The flood gated have only begun to open.
Also, if this is anything like last year, the life cycle of the game is way less than half over. I know the season is half over, but that doesn't include October Playoffs and WS. Last year we go our last Team Affinity at the end of November and a fresh inning program in December.

Anyone else growing tired of all these different sets too? I kind of wish they’d narrow down the set options too. Heck, it’s almost like regular cards with Topps doing a million sets (many of which basically overlap the theme with others).

For every post like this…there would be 7 if they came out with really good legend cards already complaining. This is the only logical way to do it, as the “newness” of the game loses its luster after the all star break, the only way they can keep everyone interested is waiting to unleash the big boys.
