Wind and 2022
-
I'm having a hard time figuring out just how much difference it makes when the wind blows in. Sometimes it blows in at 8 - 10 mph and it seems very hard to hit and then some guy will blast a 450 foot home run. How much impact does wind really have on offense?

It’s made a ton of difference in my experience. It can definitely be the difference between a HR that’s 4 or 5 feet past the wall and a routine flyout.

When the winds are strong is when you need to rely more on Power Swings so you can hit the ball harder & have greater exit velo to cut thru the wind & the wind not becoming an issue. However the trade off with that is that Power Swing reduces your Contact & Vision some what on that swing. This can make you swing & miss a lot more or hit mile high pop ups & fly balls where the opposing fielders are set under waiting for it to come down & be caught. But any ball hit with a Power Swing within the green zone & within the PCI (not outer) should have no effects from the wind. That's what I have seen from my experience.

You may also try pitching to the part of zone where if they make contact they don't get the carry to help it. Pitch selection can be key as well, force grounders or line drive type hits. Change up your defense to force them to a certain part of field as well.

Wind is known for completely ruining games. Back in the day, I only played in the Metrodome cause it is the only park with no wind. Then they turned wind off for RS and the people were pleased. The people were happy. The people were content.
So they turned it back on, huh? #metrodome4lyfe
