It just looks weird in this game because they don’t have enough animations for good swings out of the zone. IRL players will lunge or drop to a knee or really extend their arms or fall back, etc.
In mlb 22 you just get stock swing for the most part. They seem to have way way more varied animations for swing and misses than swings for pitches thrown out of the zone.

I would say a good chunk of hits IRL are out of the zone. PCI should definitely shrink more going out of the zone though.

Just because you dont see it in every game, doesnt mean that its not happening in every game.
What % of ABs in a year result in such hits? I'd wager its less than half a percent in MLB.
In TS22, we probably see one a game lol

I have no issue with hits out of the zone in the game... that is baseball. My issue is the inconsistencies of online play from game to game. I can play a 9 inning game and get good or perfect timing and dead center of my pci location 20x that game and barely muster a run and watch my opponents hitting HR late on balls outside the zone. There is literally no consistency in the game at all, I like the game... but online can be maddening at times. I lost a RS game last night where my opponent had 3 straight garbage hits (bloops on bad timing) and then finally hits a grand slam... the grand slam was good hitting, but why do I get no bloops in the whole game then my opponent gets 3 straight.

They for sure need to make contact on pitches outside of the zone result in outs FAR more frequently. As it stands swing out of the zone is a hit 1 out of ten times or a foul/redo 8 out of ten times.
OP is saying you should be rewarded for swing at hittable pitches and he is correct, but not because it’s in the zone, because they made it so you are not penalized for bad pci placement and timing out of the zone. In the zone if you F up pci placement it is a weak out.

I think we can all agree they need to do something about the foul balls. I also think they need to improve on the 'dynamic PCI' so that it actually shrinks when you go out of the zone. I think however if you square a ball up you square a ball up regardless of if it's in the zone. I don't think good PCI placement on balls out of the zone should be nerfed.

If you do make contact there it should be a single, not a home run. There should be a penalty for swinging out of the zone.
You will never win this argument here.
I've been saying for years that zone is a joke and the game needs a new hitting interface.
Only with Zone can Kenny Lofton pull a slider 3 ft off the plate into the upper deck in RF.Physics plays no role. Nor do attributes. If you master zone (and if you have, I applaud you), this game is so easy that the only competition you will get is World Series in h2h.
And what is the reticle?
It's your 2nd set of eyes, right?
So regular players (common-bronze) have horrible eyesight.
Or, is it the bat?
Diamonds use those big old red, fat wiffle bats and have eyes like the standard UFO caricature.
Or is it some bizarre combo of both?
