People who say "I don't wanna spend X amount of money" sound extremely entitled to me, because if they don't wanna spend money that's totally fine. Nobody is forcing anyone to do so. But you can not expect the premium while not willing to pay for it and it's basically a big F you to all those who did put down that money. Consider yourself being one of those people for a minute and you hear PS4 owners make these arguments.
I remember when the PS4 came out. I was in college and had no money to upgrade right away from my PS3. I understood that I would not have the same benefits as those PS4 users and never even thought of complaining about it, because that's how the world works.
Brilliantly said good sir. If you don't want to spend the extra money for a first class ticket that's fine you can fly coach, but we aren't grounding the plane because you don't have the same leg room.
I think for a lot of people it’s not that they don’t want to fly first class, it’s that there aren’t enough seats.
We just bought one last week for my father-in-law from ebay. They are out there, they just cost more than most are willing to spend. It's unfortunate, but it's not like you absolutely can't buy one, becasue you can.
But again it’s availability….yes “some” exist but there is clearly a distinct shortage that has been documented from the last almost 2 years. I don’t have the personal recollection from previous initial launches, but while there may be instances of short supply at a given location, there was never anything on a scale as there is today.
There is a big difference between going into 1 of any dozen brick + mortar places or their respective online retailer vs having to scour the internet, be first notice on releases/stocking, etc.
Lol "scour the internet"?
Just Googled "ps5 ebay" and boom I could have one here thursday for $695 + $20 shipping, in box, form a seller with 98.8% positive feedback, and backed by ebays money back guarantee. $200 over retail, I would hardly call that scouring.
That’s a 40% markup, for something that isn’t being exploited to its potential yet by your own admission.
You also have to factor in that a lot of players are from outside the US, so the already rare availability is even worse depending on where you live.
Lol so now we are talking about people in other countries... I'm out.

Ok, so 1 person can get that. What about everyone else? Again, the entire premise of the issue is overall availability. Demand very clearly outweighs supply which is why you have to go to eBay (because they aren’t available from normal retailers) or like someone else said “download an app to track next availability”.
Clearly I’m a PS4 owner and don’t play enough games other than this to warrant the upgrade. You’ve got the hardware, enjoy the premium capability, but match making should then really be able to be limited to specific console matching (no PS4 v 5).
On a final note, I am not especially tech savy so not sure I’d personally have better results with better equipment, but trust feedback from people like raes, who note it as an advantage.

All right sorry about that. But the thing that gets me, while I understand the want for next gen to take flight (although my PS4 does sound like a jet engine itself), it gets frustrating the semi-elitist attitude of some. I COULD spend 400$ above market, but on principle alone, I’m not going to help con men make money off my back.

I played a few BR games this morning and it seemed to work well. I had VRR and 120hz enabled on my Sony 900h. Smooth and no crashes or frame rate drops so far. I also didn’t have to strain myself to turn on fastballs. Very noticeable going from 15.2 ms to 6.7 ms input lag.
Overall, I’m glad I gave them some more time to fix this before going out and buying an Xbox. More clear communication would have been appreciated, though.
Additional note; I’m fairly certain the fps is still capped at 60. Offline it isn’t. I actually catch myself being able to see the seams on the ball sometimes.
I just noticed my monitor doesn't have vrr. It does have 144hz though. I play call of duty on 120hz/fps . Their other day I was able to play offline at 120hz on my PS5. I can only assume I will be able to play 120hz online now? Right? I don't know what vrr does but I don't think it's necessary to play at 120hz. Any information would be appreciated.
I’m not sure about this. Clarification from SDS would be good.
I can turn off VRR and test it, but I don’t have a way to measure other than how it feels.
When I played offline the other day the monitor was reading 120hz and it was smooth like butter. So I assume after this update that should transfer online. I can always check later when home lol I just am not real techy so I was asking

No hard feelings bud. Not paying above retail to a scalper is a moral decision. That's fine, and honestly I didn't get a ps5 for the first 6 months of its life because I didn't want to buy from a scalper either. Alot of people have said that the restock apps work well.

What does this mean for PS4 users ..won't they be completely overmatched?
If we can play at 120Hz, then yeah you're at a significant disadvantage. Time to upgrade.
See this makes me think they'll revert everything to 60hz...seems wrong to alienate a large group
I have to disagree with this and doubt they care if they alienate the PS4 users. If they hold the new console back due to the old console not having the same technology... what would be the point of paying $500 for a new console??? They wouldn't make a new car with new features, then disable the new features to be loyal to customers that paid for the previous version... that would just be bad business. They should and better be upgrading PS5 to 120hz... because that's what PS5 users paid for. PS4 users never paid for a 120hz system... so they need to buy a new console to get it. 120hz imo should have been enabled at launch and needs to be added asap because this is a Sony game and it's better to play on a Microsoft product... that is not good business for Sony.
You are totally missing the point .the point is the PS5 is not readily available has nothing to do with loyalty..the reason they are "holding the PS5 back" is because they would hurt their sales since there is such a low run of ps5's.
You can't tell people they have to buy something that is not available to them.
It is available though... maybe not in every area of the country if you can't find one, but here I bought myself one easily available and also just bought one for my son. It's pretty ridiculous to expect them to intentionally take away features for PS5 to accommodate PS4 users. New features is what sells new consoles to leave them out for older console owners is ridiculous.. that was my point. I paid $500 for my new console and if it does all the same things as my old console... seems like I wasted my money, doesn't it?

You are spot on. Don't bother trying to have a debate with this stinky guy. It's kinda his thing to be argumentative, most people know him from one of his other accounts so we just ignore him.
You could have a written report from playstion CEO Jim Ryan and he will still argue.
A good solution to his problem is to stop playing on his obsolete console or just accept the fact it's not as good as the new one... lol

They are not accommodating PS4 users.. I keep telling you this...they are "accommodating" the fan base...and at this time with the PS5 not being easily accessible (a fact that is well known, so no point in arguing otherwise)....they would hurt their own sales by excluding the larger group of console holders....so until there are more users with PS5 it would not be smart to do otherwise

You are spot on. Don't bother trying to have a debate with this stinky guy. It's kinda his thing to be argumentative, most people know him from one of his other accounts so we just ignore him.
You could have a written report from playstion CEO Jim Ryan and he will still argue.
A good solution to his problem is to stop playing on his obsolete console or just accept the fact it's not as good as the new one... lol
Once again...I am not arguing for the customer...I am telling you to look at it from the companies side

All of your analogies are great but it’s not the same when you have to go on the black market to buy a PS5. If they were in stores or selling online from actual retailers, sure, move on to next gen. But they aren’t. It’s not a money issue. It’s a I don’t want to give money to shady people selling PS5s for $300 over retail.
If SONY wants to alienate the PS4 customers, then make sure you can at least produce enough to go around to everyone who wants to buy one over a year later after release.
Lol so now ebay is the black market?
Again I’m totally fine with moving on from the PS4 era if PS5s were available in store. But for Sony to not provide enough systems for everyone who wants to buy them, and then decide to advance past the PS4 era, that’s where I have a problem.
eBay isn’t necessarily the black market, but requiring your fan base to buy from scalpers is wrong in my opinion. And don’t tell me about apps and that BS. I’ve tried numerous times to buy one at retail and BS always happens. Apps will crash. I’ve had one in my cart numerous times but can’t check out because the app will crash then be sold out.
Either figure out a way for your customers to buy the systems instead of bots, or you need to keep producing an even playing field for those who don’t want to give their money to scalpers.
Just because you guys want to pay a 40% mark up, doesn’t mean everyone should have to. This game is already heavily dependent on having a monitor to be able to play at a high level, now I have to pay $800 for something that should be $500?

It is funny that all the people who are against PS5 being able to use 120hz/VRR are the PS4 owners. Yes it sucks you don't have a PS5. We all get that. Hopefully you'll get one soon, either because of availability or because of financial matters. In the meantime, let people have and enjoy nice things. Thank you.

I actually haven't seen anyone against it

Consoles have been like that forever. The PS5 for example is estimated $450 in parts. Throw in labor and shipping costs and its well over what they are selling them for
