Errors not scored correctly?

I was leading off a game and hit a grounder to first. The 1B snagged it on the backhand and tossed to the pitcher slightly behind him so it slowed his momentum a bit, and as a result my speedy lead off man beat the pitcher to first to get on base. I didn't see what they ruled the play as so I checked the box score. 0 for 1 and 0 errors on the play. How is that even possible? Either its a hit because I beat out the play or it's an error because the toss to the pitcher was a bit wide. I mean.. right? Am I missing something here?
