So I've been playing offline since release, grinding all the programs and what not. So during that time I always keep my opinion to myself, because we all know offline usually plays fine and you don't really run into the issues that could spoil your experience.
Today I've been playing the event all day long. And it started out okay I guess, some slugfests here and there and just getting my feet wet. Nothing out of the ordinary. But the more I played, the more recurring themes I encountered.
First and foremost, the amount of bloopies/flukies or whatever you wanna call them are simply ridiculous. I understand that it is a part of baseball and it is totally fine if they happen occasionally. But the volume of bad swings that get rewarded are just out of hand at this point. We all like hit variety and we all want contact hitters to be usable, but not if this is the trade off. And that's what I feel is happening here, these hits are a thing because of the complaints regarding lack of hit variety in the past in my opinion.
What I also noticed is that the game, once again, forces my perfectly executed pitches into the strike zone. This was a thing in 18 and it feels the exact same to me in that sense. I have given up staggering amounts of homeruns on offspeed pitches that I spotted almost in the dirt and executed perfectly, yet somehow ended up in the bottom of the strike zone. Why are perfectly executed pitches being punished? What's the point of mastering PPP, which was introduced to widen the skill gap mind you, if you're gonna reduce that skill gap once more by adding randomness to the pitching outcome?
Then I've noticed that contact hitting is broken. Again. Try it for yourself to have a laugh. I played 5 games in a row swinging with the contact button exclusively and I hit 430ft homeruns and get 110+ mph exit velocities all the same. We can no longer see our opponent's feedback, but I wouldn't be surprised if many of the players in this community do the exact same thing. Since it widens the timing windows, allows for more solid contact and still gives you the same exit velocities.. why would you ever normal swing or even power swing?
Then there is the overall performance of the game in terms of fluidity and choppiness. I play on PS5 on performance mode and I played in a handful of created stadiums and major league parks that once again induce frame drops and choppiness all around. As if I'm playing on my vanilla PS4 all over again. Try playing an online game at Target Field and you'll see what I mean.
Another thing that seriously irritated me is the amount of weak flyballs and even pop ups on swings where the ball is entirely in my buckshot, albeit in the top part of it. But that's what the game wants us to do, no? Lift the ball with power hitters? So that's what I'm aiming for and I get okay hits for weak pop ups. Again, this reminded me of MLBTS 18.
Last but not least (for now) is the amount of freeze offs STILL HAPPENING. Like how on earth can you not find the issues to this problem for all these years? I can't help but think that these people just don't care or have given up on this problem like "it's part of the game, get used to it". That's unacceptable and laughable in a sense.
I have tried my hardest to find some good things to say as well. I guess I do like the sound off the bat, especially during a perfect/perfect. I also like the fact that fielders have more urgency and you're able to gun a lot more people now with good throwing input. But that's about it.
I'm sorry, but the game is just not very good. Again. I hate that it gives me MLBTS 18 vibes, but that's really what it does. Hopefully the upcoming gameplay patch that has been confirmed will fix many of this issues. If not, I probably won't play very long.
Edit:
One thing I forgot to mention, the PCI anchor. This feature was brought because people wanted to be able to have a sensitivity slider for the PCI. This is not that! The feature is terrible because it is basically guess pitch lite. People can just sit in a certain part of the zone and take away a whole part of the plate. I noticed that some people do this and don't swing until the ball comes into that part of the zone. I don't see how this has anything to do with skill and I think it's a terrible feature that should be removed asap or should be barred from online play. And yet people will defend this game Rae’s. You nailed a lot points over noticed as well. Good read on this one.
I’m not seeing the usual defenders on this thread, that’s interesting cause they usually show up to give they’re excuses of the gameplay or call someone a “conspiracy theorist” or “you just blame the game cause you suck” and the famous “it happens in real baseball”…..they’re no where to be found here lol…..wonder why.
I think because most of his issues seem to be playing H2H. Which involve internet connections between 2 people. Which have always sucked with this game. I havent played hardly any H2H so I dont have many gripes. And his H2H assessment seem right on par for years past.
The H2H experience in general hardly ever changes, except for the specific changes made to the gameplay. But serve up any game dating back from 18 until now to someone who doesn't know a thing about this franchise and they might think they're playing the exact same game every single time.

I’m going the route of not bothering to read a wall of text titled “my annual assessment…” when it’s based on only handful of online games. Yes.
Not just a handful, a whole day of playing. I've been doing this assessment every year in the exact same fashion, and I have identified issues that were at some point in time generally accepted by the community as a whole each and every time. Sorry if I didn't meet your criteria.
Anytime.

You don't read because you think?

Sorry. Name calling doesn’t really do it for me. Feel free to try again, though.
And you seemed to have missed it, but my only opinion was that one shouldn’t have an opinion based on so little. Again, didn’t read the post and won’t. Maybe when he’s played it online more than a day. That was my only opinion on the matter until he showed that he can’t handle criticism because of an inflated and fragile ego that leads him to rudely lash out at others and believes people should just trust anything he says. Not based on its validity, mind you, but because he thinks highly of himself and has convinced others of this.

You have actually been the arrogant one here. Raes' posted his assessment, never said anyone had to agree with him or respect his opinion because he's a top player. He only mentioned being a top player after you came after him. You also assumed he only played a 'handful of games'. For all you know him playing all day could mean he played 50+ games which would be a decent sample size. You could've just not read it and moved on but because of YOUR ego you felt the need to tell him you weren't going to read it to get some kind of reaction. It's easy to see why others are calling you a clown

Yes it has, that's my gripe with it. I debated it with some buddies yesterday and one of them said "well isn't it the same as holding the PCI pre pitch in a certain location though"? And I argued it's not nearly the same, because that still requires you to keep your thumb in that spot instead of leaving it stationary. I challenged him to try it in practice mode and then to the PCI anchor and he came around and said that it is not nearly the same and way easier with the anchor. Which is a problem if you want a game to be competitive. There's a reason guess pitch is turned off for online play, I believe this should be too.

Hopefully the upcoming gameplay patch that has been confirmed will fix many of these issues.
I don't see how this has anything to do with skill and I think it's a terrible feature that should be removed asap or should be barred from online play.PCI anchor completely has taken away the high fastball

Let's all just take a deep breather and try to shift our focus back to our opinions of the game. Don't give the mods reason to ban you over something that isn't worth it.
not the first time mate for me lol been there got the t shirt - i just didn't like his tone and bullying to your post -
on a game level - one positive thing i noticed this year is how quick the conquest SIMS the games - that is a nice quality of life update

I miss last years server issues, at least everyone was getting along.
LMAO - it’s true. There’s a rationale behind it though - people are likely to suffer less when there’s a shared, universal suffering lol. Totally agree with you lol
For two weeks last year this forum was the most peaceful its been in a long time. Now everyone hates each other again. We’re about a week away from another Joe Carter thread that ends up with two people wanting to fight each other IRL.

🥤🥤🥤🥤I don't want to fight anyone. I defended myself where I thought it was neccessary and proceeded to block people who I felt were getting personal. This is just me sharing my opinions, I am totally okay with people disagreeing. That's why it's called an opinion, right? But when people try to undermine my opinion based on things that are not correct (like stating I only play offline), I feel like I have to set the record straight. Which I did.

You nailed a lot points over noticed as well. Good read on this one.
I’m not seeing the usual defenders on this thread, that’s interesting cause they usually show up to give they’re excuses of the gameplay or call someone a “conspiracy theorist” or “you just blame the game cause you suck” and the famous “it happens in real baseball”…..they’re no where to be found here lol…..wonder why.
Maybe those that you call "usual defenders" actually do not defend the game as much as blasting the incoherent nonsense that many spew on this forum! Those "defenders" are not here because Raes actually has well thought out opinions rather than a long whiny post that blames everything on the game for all their losses and swings and misses! There's a big difference between Raes' posts and those other posts.
This, Rae's doesn't come on every single day to say the same thing repackaged. I may disagree with some of his claims (primarily this being shades of 18), but I respect the way he presented them
