Unrealistic Expectations
-
If you went into that livestream yesterday expecting a massive overhaul of the game mode, your expectations were unrealistic. These games take years to overhaul and they just did it last year. We are going to have the ballplayer system for the next couple of years at least, that's just the nature of the development cycle. Expecting more just sets yourself up for disappointment. The best we could hope for is that they would tweak and refine the ballplayer system a bit to make it work better and add some Quality of Life improvements. If you went in with those expectations, then I would say it was a success, at least on paper.

There is a large majority of players who have unrealistic expectations every single year. They either can't learn from the past or they simply like to complain.

Exactly. Plus these are sports games. At this point I honestly don’t know what could be added to them to make them more than just a graphics and roster update. Any new additions are going to seem small in the grand scheme of things (stadium creator, ballplayer, moments, etc).
I’m not a very creative person but what should be added that’s missing from games like The Show?

I mean I think that the systems for this mode in particular were better before ballplayer, but anybody that thought they would just completely scrap the overhaul they did last year is just not being realistic. Maybe it will get done with community feedback, but it will take a couple more games to phase it out if that's what they decide. I saw so many comments on the livestream about them not listening to fans because they didn't make drastic changes, which reflects to me, a lack of understanding on the limitations of a yearly release cycle.

I agree with you. I was just unhappy to see them put more effort into the video narrative. Is there anyone who actually listens to all of them without fastforwarding?
I was happy to see them return to picking your style of player instead of forcing you to both pitch and field, at least for your first few games in AA. They did not say but I hope as a fielder you can pick at least two different positions, such as second base and shortstop. And it is also nice to be able to create more than one player from scratch once again.
I don't expect extravagant changes, but small things like being able to call my agent when I want to, and maybe even having a choice of agents, would be nice.
Anyhow, I have preordered and am anxiously awaiting April 1st.

I wasn't expecting anything and I was still disappointed with how little they did for any of their offline modes. Don't pat SDS on the back for returning some of the features they ripped out of the mode in worse ways than they were implemented before. This (all the non-narrative [censored]) is by and large the patch they should have rolled out sometime after the first entire month of 21 where RTTS was literally unplayable. It's definitely not what I'd consider a success.

While you may not like the video narrative, I highly doubt that their effort in adding more narrative in any way takes time or effort away from the improvements or changes in the actual mode. Seems like they have their own little team to write and film the videos separate from the gameplay designers and programmers.

Back when MLB the Show 16 released. We were given this narrative story line stuff . Not a fan myself. But they said each year they would be adding and expanding on it. So I wanted give them a chance. Since the release of that game we've 2 major changes. And both are horrible. The annoying podcast that serve no purpose what so ever. And this absolutely horrible perk/archetype system. So in 6 years they've made two changes and neither of them are any good or make the mode a realistic big league experience.
They haven't fixed the bowman scout day or made it better. (in fact I think they got rid of it last year) they still have yet to add interviews, off field choices, endorsement deals, agents. They've added nothing that makes this game mode better. All we ask is give us something similar to NBA 2k and their myplayer game mode. No that is far from perfect. But at least they try.
Hell last years game had a glitch where your stats wouldn't even count towards your progress. And they never even bothered to fix it.

I understand that and agree with you. I am just thinking of the memory space it takes up that could be used for other things.

More ways to contact your agent.
A way to make your player earnings not just a number.
More character and equipment editing options, like hairstyles and tattoos, your personal logo and maybe a cleat creator
Endorsements with brands already used in the game that would require you to complete certain objectives to gain some rewards. Maybe tied to some of the challenges.
More stats for your player (OPS+, for example).
Maybe keeping records beyond the six or seven available to tell you when your ballplayer goes over legends.
Renew practice games so training feels fresh every year.I could go on and on.
Some people say that others like to complain about everything... This game LITERALLY has missing uniforms EVERY YEAR (Cardinals red jerseys, Yankees dark blues, M's light blues...), the BP jerseys and character editor haven't had a change in YEARS, the managers still wear outdated jackets, and the Oakland Coliseum STILL has the upper deck tarps.

I don't mean a success as in they hit it out of the park, I mean success in terms of they at least seem to have made the realistic changes that they could have in the short time frame and the mode looks like it will hopefully be playable. I don't mean to give them a pat on the back, as the overall changes to the system introduced last year are not great overall, but I think it is fair to bash them for the things that they were not going to be able to do in such a short time period anyway.

I mean we can discuss the addition of endorsements, off field choices, on field interviews, and the general MyCareer like additions, but at the end of the day I don't see the point in getting mad at them right now about that. They just overhauled the mode last year, and all of that would be a new overhaul. They aren't going to do that in such a quick turnaround. It would be like me getting angry because Playstation or Xbox didn't release a new console immediately after the last release. I agree that the mode could be better, but this year at best was always going to be a patch year with marginal improvements to the system. I just think we should focus on how they did in that department when critiquing this year's game.
