Rockies sign Kris Bryant to a 7 year 182 Million deal with a full no trade clause. Not sure what the Rockies are doing lol

Someone pull @Ikasnu_PSN off the floor.
-
Two years too [censored] late
-
Yeah, this makes very little sense. The Rockies are so far from winning anything. No offense @Ikasnu_PSN. If they resign Story they are still far away. Wouldn't mind them getting Pujols and giving him a chance to 700.
-
I have no delusions of being competitive.

Ridiculous contract
-
This moves the needle for COL little to none, let Nolan and Story walk and sign a lesser player in Bryant. They just let anyone be a GM these days lol
-
The real problem is it’s highly unlikely that anyone was competing with them to give him a contract like that.
-
Wow Bryant gets 1 more year and 20M more than Freddie Freeman. That doesn't add up.

Not a fan of the deal but Bryant is 2 years younger.

At least we know he looks good in pinstripes.

“lesser player”
A healthy Bryant is undeniably better than Arenado or Story. Even with being injured/playing through injuries for basically the last 4 seasons, he still has a better wRC+ than both of them in that time span, not to mention a better career wRC+. It’s funny how Arenado’s wRC+ in 2021 looked suspiciously similar to his road numbers from previous years too. They both have better defense than Bryant of course, but a healthy Bryant with decent defense and his bat makes for a better combination than Arenado’s or story’s. The question isn’t if Bryant is better than them (he is), but if he can stay healthy enough to put up the kinds of seasons he’s capable of.
I get you have a clear bias against Bryant, but let’s be real and actually look at the stats before saying things lmao. I agree that it’ll take a lot more than Bryant (or any one player) to make that Rockies team be good though lol

2018-2021 (last 4 years)
Nolan Arenado-
16.9 fWar
359 RBIs
121 HRS
4 Gold GlovesKris Bryant-
11.1 fWar
211 RBIs
73 HRS
0 Gold GlovesGotta be on the field and play consistently well to be the better player. I know you'll come back with some equation that only Matt Damon in Good Will Hunting could perform to disprove this and I applaude your knowledge but come on....Nolan is a far better and healthier player.

Arenado’s best season is 6.1 fWAR, even while having the benefit of Coors. A healthy Bryant gets 6 fWAR easily, with a much higher peak. Yes, Bryant’s health has been questionable the last few seasons, which is exactly why Arenado’s cumulative stats are higher in that time frame (though Bryant has still been a slightly better overall offensive player during that time). Comparing healthy Bryant vs healthy Arenado, Bryant is easily the better player.

This is a totally unbiased statement I’m sure. You can make somewhat of an argument for Arenado currently due entirely to Bryant’s injuries in recent seasons (healthy bryant is undeniably statistically better though), but there’s literally no statistical argument to be made for Story being a better player than healthy Bryant.

Agree to disagree haha. I get what you are saying and I like Bryant, certainly no bias, I'd love for him to play right field or DH for my Cardinals. From 2015-2017 he was the better player, not by a huge margin but the numbers bare that out. That was 5 years ago. Bryant played 147 games in 2019 and 144 in 2021 so he was healthy and Arenado outshined him both seasons. And I'm sorry, but just like our Posey v. Molina debate, health and longevity matter. If I'm an owner ( gross) I'd take the guy who stays on the field and maybe is slightly less spectacular at peak health than the guy who woulda, shoulda, coulda but never quite reaches it year after year.
They are both still fairly young and Bryant could once again surpass Arenado especially now that the script is flipped and he's in Colorado. We shall see.
Defensively, Arenado is a generational talent. When it's said and done, he may surpass Brooks Robinson for most gold gloves at 3rd, he's at 9 already.
