1919 Chicago White Sox.
Where do I collect my prize? I mean... This is the best answer.
How could you of all people not mention the 1960 Pirates upsetting the powerful Yankees in the Series?!?!
As a Pirates fan, I feel like an idiot. Still... 1919 White Sox is my final answer.

1969 Cubs
1984 CubsI am biased.
I can certainly understand your pain as a Cubs fan in that 1984 season. As a Padre fan however, 1984 is one of my best sports memories of all time.
That 1998 team was pretty special too. Too bad they ran into the greatest team of all time in the WS. I still think if the ump doesn't blow that call against Langston, the Pads may have at least made it a 6 game series.
That 98 team was awesome to watch. Arguably better than the 84 team too. The 84 team was one of my earliest sports memories though so it has a special place in my heart. Garvey hitting that HR in game 4 to force a game 5, after the Cubs beat up on us pretty good in the first 2 games. Then, being at game 5 with my Dad as an 8 year old was an incredible experience. To this date I have yet to experience a louder crowd than when Garveys name was announced at the beginning of game 5. The crowd was electric that day and I'll never forget it. 98 was a ton of fun too though and you're right, unfortunately we had to play one of the greatest all time teams. That no call on strike 3 to Tito Martinez was tough. Couldn't agree more, Langston got him there and he goes on to hit a grand slam. Changed the complexion of the series. In all likelihood we wouldn't have beaten the Yankess regardless, they were that good but it may have not been so lopsided.

Little biased here but the 11-14 tigers really should have at least had a competitive world series at some point. 11: Nelson Cruz. 12: Swept in the WS, 13: David Ortiz, 14: Brad Ausmus
Agreed, Tigers should have won 1. I also think they were the team to beat in 2006 but that huge layoff after sweeping both the ALDS and ALCS really messed with their momentum. As much as I love the Cardinals. The should have lost to the Tigers that year.
I believe that was the year the Cardinals tripped and fell into the playoffs as they lost on the last day but so did the Astros (or somebody) lost on the last day of the season. Classic example of expanded playoffs allowing a team to get hot at the right time. As I am a Cards and was stoked that we won, they had no business being in the post season that year.

Great topic:
The 2001 A's and Mariners: had it not been for the Jeter flip, that would have been an amazing ALCS. We ended up with a pretty amazing WS anyway.
2019 Astros- Cole, Verlander, Greinke and that insane offense.
2021 Dodgers and Giants - (great article above)
1995 Indians were a better team than the 1997 team but I would have loved to see them beat the Marlins
2004 Cardinals and Astros (that was an amazing series too Game 5 and 6 especially, but it got a bit overshadowed).
1985 Cardinals who actually won the WS (cough....Denkinger....cough)
1988 and 1990 Oakland A's (both should have steamrolled their opponent, but alas they did not).
1954 Indians (probably the most notorious team who should have win to not only blow it but to get swept).
@arvcpa_PSN great answer. Yes, you win.
All excellent choices. I chose the ‘95 Indians cuz their lineup was lights out. They won 100 games in a strike shortened season (140 I think). Albert Belle had 50 doubles and 50 bombs. Never been done before or since. But, the ran into Maddux and Glavine.

Oh you are absolutely right. I believe they were 4 games over .500 and are technically the worst team in terms of record to ever win a WS. They should have lost to both the Mets with that insane lineup (Reyes, Wright, Beltran, Delgado, Green, LoDuca etc.) And the Tigers who were red hot. But, I'm obviously glad they got it done.

The 116 win Mariner team has to be the answer here.
-
Any year the Braves didn’t win it all in the mid to late 90s.

That Indians team was scary. But it goes to show what great pitching can do.

2011 Phillies. 102 Regular season wins…
-
The fact that the Braves won only one WS with that Maddux/Glavine/Smoltz trio is hard to to believe so pretty much all of their teams from 1996-2002.

2001 Mariners
