Finest Harper

I guess if you were a huge Harper fan and put in lots of time to P5 his awards card only to find out there is a better version it would stink a little. Outside of that seems like a win all around.

I’m a huge Harper fan who go the P5 MVP card and I’m excited to now get P5 Finest card. It’s definitely a win all around.

I mean to me that would be even a W. I’m weird. Once I get a player to p5 I barely use them anymore. A brand new card means more reason to start over again. I’m not judging who likes or doesn’t like it. I think it’s awesome.

So does this mean another 99 Ohtani is on the way?

Same here, once they hit P5, they are pretty much retired

I doubt it because this was his breakout year. He might get a 99 next year or in the future for sure.

I don't like the idea of 2 99 cards, I just don't. And this card will be better than the other one despite 2015 Harper being better than 2021 Harper
I mean how can SDS predict Harper would be the MVP this season. He earned MVP before and they released a card for him. He got MVP again so they’re giving him a Finest, Seems only right to me. I don’t see why it’s a problem unless you don’t like Harper.
I mean Abreu didn't get a finest card last year. Trout got a Signature series and not a finest in 19(The current finest Trout is completely made up.) the only thing likely to separate finest Harper from award harper is Power vs L, Fielding, and Quirks. Its just a waste when people are still waiting on Puckett etc.
And to be clear, I don't hate Harper, far from it. I just thinks that tgis further proves that cards based on the current season are far too juiced. 2015 Harper is arguably the best non-Bonds hitting season of the past 25 years. Legends and non-current season flashbacks deserve more than what they get
Harper is easily one of my favorite players, but giving him two 99s is absolutely one of the dumbest things SDS has ever done content-wise. The only way it’ll make sense is if the finest has significantly worse attributes against lefties, significantly worse reaction, but slightly better fielding. But of course they’re going to pretend this year was better than his 2015 season and boost every single attribute out the [censored].
If I were someone that cared about puckett, bagwell, etc., then SDS making a pointless 99 like this is something I’d be furious over.
If any at SDS actually cares about stats, they should be ashamed of themselves for even suggesting that Harper’s 2021 season was anywhere close to his 2015 season.

Totally agree. I never understood how cards could ever have higher attributes than guys who are legitimately in the HOF with great career numbers.

The thing I do not understand with SDS is the fact that they don’t give legend cards any active quirks. It’s crazy to think that Tray Turner is better than Babe Ruth. Legend cards should have special/legendary quirks to make them more unique and valuable than the other cards.

The whole point of active quirks was just to give live series cards a boost to make them less obsolete compared to legends and flashbacks. SDS has totally missed the point now that they’re giving active quirks to 99 overall flashbacks that are already some of the best cards in the game regardless. It’s just unnecessary. Either go back to strictly LS cards having active quirks, give them to legends/all non-current season flashbacks too, or just get rid of them entirely.

I would have even accepted a no-hitter card for some of those guys that threw one so early in the season their topps nows are under 90. It just seems like fan service for the Phillies fans that have been crying about a Phillies 99 Harper for 3 years

The card being a gift is totally irrelevant. It’s the fact that someone at SDS had to spend time putting together the card art, creating the attributes, coding the card into the game, all for a useless duplicate 99 that makes zero statistical sense when compared to his previous 99. The time could’ve and should’ve been spent making a different, new 99. That’s the point, and it’s a extremely valid criticism/complaint.
As far as the gift goes, I would’ve been happier with just a bundle of packs and a bat skin, without this nonsensical garbage.

You can ask anyone around here. This is legitimately the first time I've been critical of a single piece of content all season. Its almost exactly the same card as the awards version with better fielding, worse arm, and active quirks. Active quirks on all cards would make this card completely irrelevant
