Trying to Make Stubs by Flipping Cards, But...
-
Something is real fishy about the market, from what I've noticed from trying to flip cards. I'll make my buy and sell orders for them and make stubs from that just fine. But occasionally, this happens.
A normal example:
Joe Random is going for 400 stubs, with no buy orders. I place a buy order and get him for cheap, let's say 25 stubs. Then, I go back and place a sell order for 399 stubs and it goes through, I make a profit.
What I've noticed happening:
Same as before. Joe Random is going for 400 stubs, with no buy orders. I place a buy order and get him for cheap, let's say 25 stubs. Then, I go back and place a sell order for 399 stubs. I notice several low buy orders in the "sell now" column (Let's pretend there are five of them). Shortly afterward, Joe Random is going for 359 stubs, with five sell orders for that amount.
Mind you, this is within the span of five minutes or less. Just what the heck is going on in the market? Are there rings of players that are doing this? Or bots?? Something stinks about this, because this is happening with a lot of Live Series cards that I want to flip.
I'm new to card flipping, so I am really put off by this.

Ok I’ve experienced this. I made a killing off flipping players with no buy orders what happens is I think there are a good amount of people flipping this way. With the companion app I can just search players based on this criteria. Then I can put in all the buy orders I want until someone else joins in. Then it complicates things because now just as you stated, sell prices come down a bit buy prices go up a tad.
I can’t say I truly believe there are no bots. But I can say I’m one of those people that will battle flippers on lower tier cards. At the high of my flipping I was selling and buy thousands of players a day.

That's what I was doing, making stubs off of bronze and common cards that were going for a few hundred stubs. There were just too many coincidences that I experienced for me to totally dismiss my bot hypothesis.
If bots can shut down TF2 and Titanfall servers they can do petty stuff like this, too.

I have spammed the
out of a lot cards up until hit 5 mil. One example: I had about 125 Kyle Tyler's when he was averaging about mid 600's. I posted sell orders for all of them at 555, 444 and 333. I did this with about 5 or 6 different cards. Most were about 40-50 cards each.
I was tired of Stubbin'
at the time and decided they all had to go.

How do you even get 125 Kyle Tuckers??? Low buy orders?

I'd still like to know who I battled with for 3 days over Seth Beer. That was a worthy adversary!

20-30 buy orders here, 20-30 buy orders there, canceled sell orders that were out there for a while. I was kind of surprised too.

Bunch of selfish pieces of garbage keep undercutting my sell orders on Martin Maldonado. I cancel and resell and they undercut me again, over and over. Selfish, selfish, can't have normal competition, can they?
-
Pick a card and watch is not move in price for a while. Try to buy it and watch an almost immediate post for a higher amount. I think a computer bot may be doing it.

Let them stand for a day or two and they'll go. Also analyze the time of day. Generally, the market is more active in the evening and weekends.
Just relax and they'll sell. If not after a few days, then repost.

From their point of view, you are undercutting them no?

I can make over 1 million in a week, if the market is pretty active. (I don't have time to flip that much, but I could, lol)
I use theshowzone, that helps a lot. -

Not with a heck ton of sell orders like they are...

After my stub count had dwindled down to about 2.2M, started flipping again after a 2 month hiatus. Was averaging 500K a day until the new firewall went up and cut off my daytime access.
Hopefully between that and the upcoming packfest that is TA5, that should be enough to get me through the rest of the year.

This year I finished the LS early just by playing and earning packs, cards etc. First time NMS. I have got to over 2M in stubs just by selling duplicate players. It is very surprising to me that this year Bronzes and Commons sell for way more than Silvers. There are a lot of people putting up sell orders for Golds that after the 10% is taken out are getting less than quick sell so I just QS them for 1000. It is a crazy year with gameplay and the market but it was easy to get almost all the cards you want just by playing the game.

If you can't handle the heat, then you need to stay out of the kitchen. When it comes to the market, no one is there to be your buddy. I always look at it like you're trying to take food out of my mouth, and as long as the bidding meets my criteria, I'll fight you every step of the way.
-
Best thing to do is just set it and forget it. I usually put up an order and leave it for a day or 2 and if it doesn't go through I will adjust my order from there but it will usually go through. If you keep trying to go back and undercut the other guys eventually you will just be losing stubs.
