In reality, that throw to first from right field almost never happens unless it is called ahead of time by the manager. A right fielder in the big leagues who tried to throw out every runner at first would get benched. That's not good baseball. It does happen, but rarely.
There should be a "shift" option that a manger can manually implement that would call for the RF to play in (expecting a weak ball in play) and 1B covering. If the manager does not call for this before the pitch, 1st base will not be covered on a ball in play to the outfield. The outfielder has been taught to throw to his cutoff, or make a play at second. That's just baseball.
