Watch out for Salvy who hit a home run in 5 straight games including 2 game tying or winning grand slams and he just broke the record for most home runs by a catcher in AL history.
Riley is another strong choice.
Yep I forgot about him, good choice
Riley or Salvy?
I’m thinking salvy now that you mention it
Jeez 4th Salvy card this year
It could be worse. He's one of the active players that has a shot at the HOF someday.
Never a fan of the same guys over and over again 3 is too many 4 seems excessive
Not a chance. He's having a great year, but his career as a hitter has been mediocre. He's never hit over 30 hrs (except this year) he's never had 100 rbis (except this year he probably will) and he's not really a .300 hitter. He has hit .300 twice, but both seasons weren't full seasons. He won't hit 400 hrs in his career, he won't get 3000 hits, and I would be curious to see how many, if any at all, of his all star appearances were because Noone else on the team made the cut.
He is also currently 10th in war of active catchers

Ehh he's the 3rd most likely out of active catchers, and catcher only has 19 hall of famers as it is. I don't think Salvy has much of a shot at all tbh
I'm assuming the first 2 are Yadi and Buster?
No arguments here.
Salvy right now is not a HOFer. I agree he would need to add a handful of great years and perhaps some more accomplishments.
But he's 31, he has 7 All Star games, 5 gold gloves, a world championship and World series MVP. Again, it would require a really strong 4 or 5 years which a players early to mid 30s in that position aren't an ideal age for it. If this year turns out to be an outlier then you are right. But add a few more GGs and All Star games and 4 or 5 more great years, I think he's in. Just my opinion.

Maybe a few, but remember the few years where the entire Royals squad made the starting lineup? Maybe I'm overstating. I think he has a chance, that would require him to be the player he is this year for a while longer.
I love Yadi who has been a good not great hitter. He doesn't have 200 homers, won't get to 3,000 hits, maybe 2,200. He'll get in for his glove and decent bat. Again, salvy needs to be this player for a while longer, but I bet 5-6 years ago, a lot of people wouldn't have considered Yadi a HOFer.
Ok, I'll get off my soapbox. Perhaps I'm just on a Salvy high and next year he'll come back to earth and I'll completely eat my prediction.

I do remember that year. The KC fans really showed up lol. If He stays his whole career in kC then I think it helps his chance alot, the writers love [censored] like that.

Yadi has a couple of World Series wins, that’s a huge HOF booster. Posey, same thing multiple World Series and an mvp to boot. More important than stats are these categories for catchers.
I hope Salvy gets there. I do. He is the heart of that team

You're absolutely right. Salvy has the 1 ring and WS MVP as well as the AL championship the year prior, but Buster and Yadi are more decorated. I hope Salvy gets there too. I tend to be overly optimistic for my favorite players.
-
I know this might sound odd but to me Yadi is a lot more like an Ozzie Smith case to the HOF where great glove below average bat but plays for a winning franchise. Salvy really has been somewhat hurt by the fact the teams he played on just haven't been very good for years and years which gets him less attention. If they switched teams I think Salvy is just as strong of a case but I think Molina would lose recognition if he played for a worse team

No reason they don’t give him the lightning card unless they continue to hate on all things Rockies.
Cron has a higher average than votto or Schwarber or semien did. He has the highest ops of all with 1.245 and 10 homers. 4 of the ten on road. 13 road games this month and 11 home and he is still hitting .378
Except Austin Riley is having a better month in all those categories.
Riley has 5 homers. Ops of .981 and hit .368 so he actually didn’t have as good of an august as your thinking
-
Upon further review I think naquin is having the best month but we already have a reds lightning player. Salvy is deserving of all the love but his month is only .265 with 11. His stats are not quiet up to the level that Cron or Naquin are

MARTE!
-
I wouldn’t care for another first baseman though. Especially not a right handed slow 1st baseman at that
-
It all depends on what criteria they want to use.
Among batters Based on WAR the top three are
Harper
Judge
NaquinBased on Batting Avg
Naquin
Bryan De La Cruz
CronRBIs
Cron
Perez
PolancoUnless they decide to go for a pitcher I would say there are multiple valid choices they could make without hating on a team. I would that say Naquin is in the lead.
On the Pitching front Adam Wainwright has the best WAR for pitchers in the month of August. He has to be in the mix somewhere

Since the All Star break the only player with more homers and RBI’s than Riley is Votto. He leads the league in batting average since the All Star break with a .358 ba. ops .1135. Sorry bud just because Cron has hit a bunch homers at Coors field doesn’t mean he’s had the best month. Also, Riley is a superior defender to Cron. Riley is probably considered a top 5 MVP candidate at this point in the season and I would say he is probably more like top 2 trailing only Tatis mainly due to the fact that he is not as flamboyant as Tatis not because he has been outperformed. Riley has a much better body of work over the month than any player in the NL during the month. And he plays a much more demanding defensive position. Not saying Cron hasn’t been good. But POTM is not a one dimensional offensive award. It requires you to be good on both sides of the ball. And quite frankly Cron doesn’t stack up the same defensively at a less premium defensive position.
-
It's crazy to think that the Jays had 3 players of the week in August and likely won't have a card in the program unless they do give Springer one of the lower 94-95 for his 2 weeks of crazy essay
Overall I would love to see Marte get it follow by Naquinn Corn
Now that I write this Robby Ray could get a card for August as he's been lights out

Yadi’s stats are more fringe HOF than most people realize. He’s actually not as good defensively as many think. He’s a great catch and throw catcher and manages the pitching staff as good as anybody ever has but the rest of his defensive metrics are average to below average when compared to his counterparts. He trails players like Posey and Salvy in many of those defensive metrics. He is a below average hitter and is not very good in the playoffs. He is a product of the team he has played for. And does not rank highly amongst actual HOF catchers. I’m not saying that he isn’t HOF material but it’s much murkier than most people think.

Wainwright has to have a card in here somewhere. Not the "ultimate" card, but a card nonetheless. 5 wins, 1.43 ERA, etc.
I'm sure I can get a "like" from @Dolenz_PSN , @eatyum_PSN ...

As I mention a few posts up Wainwright has the best WAR among all starters in Aug. So yeah, you can get a like from me.

Riley got one last month so won’t again I’d bet
The lightning card goes to the player of the month from either the AL or NL as long as they haven’t already been a lightning player in a previous month. So if Austin wins the POTM in the NL he will most likely be the lightning card as Marcus Semien has already won lightning award for May and is most likely the AL POTM for August in the AL.
No way Riley wins
18 players have a better WAR in Aug
3 players had a higher batting AVG (including 3 of the 18 players with a better war)
23 players had more RBIs
22 Players had more home runsIt seems pretty obvious to me the Cron and Naquin are the favorites. Cron's 10 home runs, 33 RBIs and .384 average in Aug will be hard to beat. He is top 2 in all 3 of those categories for AUG.
EDIT: And no way Semien gets AL Player of the Month for Aug. What stats are you looking at?

Right but it’s called player of the month. Not player since the all star break lol. Or any arbitrary date you select that helps your argument the most
