I've never understood the hatred toward Showdown and I guess I never will.
Its the all or nothing aspect. Who has time for that?
I dont get that argument at all. I've said this before, but I suppose it's due to the games I played growing up all being this way. Galaga (or Asteroids, or Centipede, or Mrs Pac Man, or whatever countless other games) were all built the same way. You played until you were out of lives, and had to start over from the beginning.
I see Showdown for what it is, a boss battle game where it's not completed until you beat the final boss. To me, there shouldnt be restart points, or save points. I don't see the problem with it, but then again, I'm just an old guy who grew up with games being that way.
I grew up on that stuff too. I was a kid then with all the time in the world. As an adult I no longer have the endless time to do things over and over. I no longer play games for a challenge, its why I started playing story based games on the easiest difficulty.
It's frustrating to waste the little time you have to play and come away feeling like you accomplished nothing.

But it is a sports simulation game and you don't always win. Sure showdown takes a bit longer than some other things like moments...but most showdowns are nothing like a RS game and almost everyone who plays this game loses those on a regular basis.

Then I dont know what you want from the game. Rookie mode with every pitch a 79 mph center-cut meatball? I wouldnt find that fun at all. Video games need to be challenging in some way to keep you invested.

I lost 1500 stubs on that FOD Showdown before saying to he!! with it and 1000 on 5th inning. Will never do another. Struggled through and got 5 my Event wins (thanks to the one guy that lost connection and gave me a win - You're my boy Blue).
Moments are the bane of my existence, there's not many people i'd like to punch in the throa...but the creator of those.... (J/K, but not really, J/K)
I don't mind Ranked Seasons...cool to see who others have on their teams. I suck, I win a few here and there, but I'm not out to make World Series...that ain't happening, i enjoy playing cpu but it can get monotonous from time to time.

Ok. Instead of disagreeing how about this. The people who are good at showdown and have beaten it already. What are some of your tips? Best starting perks, etc.
-
I enjoy showdown.
But when I did the FOD event and not once but twice my base runners disappeared. I quit out of it.

-The only perk I care about is exit velocity and I try to pick the ones that will be used most often. For instance I don't always jump on the one that is 7th inning or later, because not all take place late in the game.
-I try and be as patient as possible. I feel like with showdown you tend to get pitches way out of the zone or somewhat meatballs that you can drive. It is pretty easy to get yourself in a 2-0 count and then get great pitches to drive.
-I draft based on hitters/swings I know I like. I don't look for power only like some people, because having someone I am confident in is more important to me.
-I play people out of position to maximize hitters. It is very rare that you actually have to play the field on Showdown. I had Piazza in my lineup in CF. You also are always the away team, so you can hit someone high in the order and replace them after the first if you do have to play the field and are concerned about it. -

You can always go for a bunt cheese squad if you are having trouble with a normal lineup. Take speedy guys who can drag bunt and take perks that improve your stealing, etc.

I dont need to win, but I need to walk away from my session feeling like I accomplished something. My Career from 17 was perfect for this, every hit, strikeouts, win, save etc. Counted for something so even in losing you were accomplishing something.
Showdown and moments don't even let you work on PXP. Outside of meager XP you really walk away with nothing if you fail.

LOL Yeah SDS will hear only your points like they have heard the others
I forgot that I play offline so I don't matter.
at least you came to a certain type of conclusion there - respect the fact that others love showdown and other modes - i hate offline but i aint judging you for that

I’d like to point out that if SDS hadn’t done this—if they hadn’t forced offline players to choose between dealing with showdown or playing online—we wouldn’t be arguing about it in the first place. Like making someone choose between having something heavy drop on their foot, or shutting a car door on their hand. Another reason why it’s a despicable move on their part.
Thats not true. This discussion happens twice a week

Good idea. I’ve had terrible luck on it so far. Tried to get a squeeze bunt and they turned it into a triple play lol.

This week it’s different. It’s not just that showdown is frustrating for some of us.
It’s that SDS is forcing offline players to choose between two things they hate in order to complete a program.

I’ve tried several times with Lou Brock and it’s been a low success rate. It’s also baffling how he can’t successfully steal a base for me for the one moment that requires either two hits or a stolen base. It’s like he’s live television in that he’s on a seven second delay.

You also are always the away team, so you can hit someone high in the order and replace them after the first if you do have to play the field and are concerned about it.The 7th inning and later perks are great for the final boss. I didnt realize until it was mentioned on this forum, but it's always "on" for the final boss. I will stack every exit velocity perk I can get. The best one is the exit velocity on normal swings. I usually try to get that one, the 7th inning one, and either the first 2 pitches, or the one when losing perk.
I also will make sure I put my runner in motion when I get someone on first to attempt to avoid double plays. I wait until it's either a 2 ball or 2 strike count to send them, as they will never pitch out in those counts. I make sure to have at least one player on the bench that can steal bases when needed, along with another speedy runner. I put them in for the go ahead run, and sometimes the tying run. I dont test OF arms unless I have to, because they always will throw you out with perfect throws.
-
I like them. They are relatively easy but they are fun when they are challenging.
-
Ok. I’m going to eat some crow here. After nine attempts, I finally got it done. I went in to the final showdown down by 8 and managed to get it done with 9 outs left. I did have three good bunters in my lineup (Lofton, Aparicio, and Brock). Once I got a homer with Yermin Mercedes, I was off to the races. While I still hate showdowns with a passion, I was able to get it done and now have Clemente. Thank you to everyone for the advice. PS, I don’t know what it is but I can not pitch with Felix to save my life.

Stop trying to force these modes that people hate on us. They should be optional to complete a program (for offline players). Moments are the worst. No one says, "I can't wait for more moments". They say, "I HAVE to do these real quick to get back to playing what I actually enjoy".
If you're going to force showdown on us, you can't let disconnects lead to not getting the runs or failing completely. This has happened to me several times. For a casual player like me, runs are crucial. Maybe I am wrong and just venting because I hate this mode and it is causing me stress that I won't complete a program but I think I have some valid points that SDS needs to hear.Get better internet.....
