SDS Messed Around and Broke Their Game
-
Wow!! It wasn’t but a week or two am I was thinking to myself “Wow, this game is starting to feel like one of the better Show games I’ve played” after a a month or two of thinking the excessive home runs would ruin it before we even got to the 3rd inning program.
Boy, has something gone wrong. Even games I’m winning I still can’t help but think this game is doomed in the condition SDS has left it in. Let me just bullet point all the issues I’ve encountered in the past week or so.
- Was about to win an event game. Routine grounder to the first baseman. Hit circle to end the game, but inexplicably he starts running toward home. Circle was the only button I pressed.
-Caught stealing on several occasions. Perfect jump, but sometimes you can literally see the game slow the runner down with some janky animation that looks like he got a cramp halfway to second or third base, allowing the catcher to throw him out.
-Lost the lead in another game when my opponent decides to run home like an idiot. He’s not even halfway there and I throw the ball to my catcher who proceeds to not even attempt a tag.
-PCI placement doesn’t seem to mean anything. My opponents keep missing the ball or getting on top of it or under it…either some silly ground ball base hit, or bloop…or of course a home run (which are still excessive, but with the condition the game is in now it feels less egregious)
-Semi regular errors. Ground balls are apparently hard for diamond defenders and routine throws are off target by 20 feet. Has happened enough, and always in crucial late game situations….it feels like sometimes the game is literally preventing you from winning (which after sinking 20 minutes or more into that particular game, is not what you want)
Anyone else noticed this? The game was playing so smoothly and they just went in and nuked it with the last update.

You're not wrong. When the game 1st came out - it was peak MLB The Show. Everything played (fairly) true and it was fun.
After each update, it gets worse and worse
-
Only thing I’ll address is the wide throws. That’s on you for not using button accuracy
-
It’s hard to imagine another game with SO much programming designed to make the user fail. It’s true, baseball is a difficult game largely about failure, but this is a video game.
None of us have any delusions about suddenly getting called up to play for our favourite MLB team. It seems SDS has forgotten that the aim of video games should be entertainment and fun, not frustration.
-
The game should be played the same way by everyone. If tapping circle is an option for throwing to first, the results should not be randomly generated. I can understand it happening to a common fielder, but outside of that it’s just stupid. Either make EVERYONE use button accuracy, pinpoint pitching, zone hitting etc or don’t, and stop programming random outcomes.
-
Consistency of outcomes across the board is what this game lacks.
-
Everyone here seems to get it except @Hikes83. If I want to see random outcomes, I’ll play GM/Coach mode.

No it’s not that at all. I can’t comment on other stuff you say cause I’ve hardly encountered any of it.
All I said is if you use button accuracy for your throws, you eliminate 100% of the RNG. Isn’t it what you’re asking for??

I think what @Hikes83_PSN is saying is that if you use "button accuracy", by default you won't have a wide throw... so long as you're "accurate". If you just use buttons, yes, your fielders will make an occasional error.
I switched to Button Accuracy this year, and when I make an error, it's 100% on me.
-
I feel like I had wide throws using the accuracy meter.

only if you stop it in the yellow.
Base stealing "cramp", is the other user's throw meter (it's been this way for years). How would you suggest they handle it differently? The game pauses as the catcher times up the throw, you're going to see that too. You can't stop time for one and not for the other.

Differently? If that's the problem, then you eliminate that option for the catcher, and just have him throw the ball. Also, they can just cut out the bad jump [censored]. Annoying as hell when I have a 99/99 runner, and he doesn't even go until the pitcher is getting ready to release the ball. It's like my runner doesn't even know he's going for a steal until the pitcher is close to releasing the ball, and then it's an easy out.
Another bs thing in this game is JD Martinez and his supposedly worthless arm, throwing people out at 2nd and even home plate. He has no arm strength or accuracy, but yet still makes throws he has no business making.
This game totally has issues. -
Well said OP my sentiments exactly. SDS ruined the game with the update which was purely intended to appease the complainers about "contact swings resulting in Home Runs ect". Now they have nerfed hitting so badly it takes the fun out of playing. Even in batting practice everything the CPU generates are negative outcomes ......... an AI which is predicated upon any means necessary to deny the user/customer/player success. Anyway, Thank You for posting this and all who took the time to reply to your post here. So we all continue to grind knowing full well the AI is going to lock us into animations and cheats which make the game more comparable to Madden gaming than our beloved MLB The Show series.

This game totally has issues. So you want to remove the throw meter and just have RNG determine the catchers throw?
No judgement, just a question. that's the only other option you've put forth.
The game is terrible, I came back to grind offline TA stuff and deleted it again. It's not going to get better. But, there are real issues. A throw meter for catchers is not one of them.

I haven't experienced it, but if it's going to slow my runner down, then yeah. My runner is a 99; I want to fly. What really yanks my chain though, is my runner just standing there while the pitcher is going to the plate, before he decides he's going to go. It's like he doesn't even know he's supposed to be stealing.

Eliminating the catcher throw meter is taking away for your opponent the opportunity for them to control the accuracy of the throw, which sounds like something you’re against though, based on your opening post.

I don’t have the answer but how many qualified MLB players had zero errors the past few years? The games outcomes are RNG based so errors should be as well because EVERYONE throws them. So a guy who can time the accuracy meter perfect every time is unrealistic

Well on those extremely tough plays, the green zone becomes extremely narrow so it does become harder to hit. But routine plays should be routine, hence the large green area

As I said, I haven't experienced it myself. However, if it truly slows the runner down, then yeah, I'm definitely against it.
