What does linking your account do?

I’ve tried to sign in but it says my username and or password is wrong. I’m assuming my username is Earths Flat. I tried to reset my password but it said my username and/or email is wrong. I’m confused and not sure what to do. Is there any reason I need or should link my account? I’m able to access everything else on this site just fine. Thanks in advance for feedback!
