he does play defense
so whats the deal?If you call occupying the 3rd base hole playing defense than yeah he plays defense. That’s about all he does. He blows the routine play while making the spectacular. Problem is there are far more routine unforced errors than there are spectacular diving saves. He simply can’t throw to first base. He is a first baseman/dh at best down the road

He is going to have to be far more elite offensively to cover up for his inequities on the defensive side of the ball. There is a reason The trouts and Acunas are where they are. They play elite level defense on top of being elite level offensive producers.

elite offensive or defensive?

Yelich has been elite offensively, he’s only an 85 because he’s having a down year and his defense is awful. Yelich might be in the same conversation eventually but his 3 year averages are keeping him afloat at Diamond.
And yes Stanton, Muncy, Seager, Gurriel, and Soto are all better defensively. Soto is questionable but has been an elite hitter. Not by a lot but that’s why they’re Diamond and Devers isn’t. I think 3B ratings weighs more heavily on defense even though it really doesn’t matter in-game.

Well Muncy and Seager are both good defenders and they have a proven track record. Yelich is elite offensively when he is healthy. Same goes for Stanton. Gurriel is an elite defender and very good offensive player. Soto is only the best hitter in baseball. Matt Olson is a great defender and a pretty darn good offensive player. All those guys deserve their diamonds. Not saying that Devers isn’t good but his defense is atrocious. And that is why he hasn’t gone diamond yet. He needs to be that much better offensively to cover up those defensive issues.
-
Personally I give him a slight pass on D. I said slight. He is at third which isn’t a premium defensive position but is tough. If JD can go diamond or any primary DH then you could argue Devers should be a diamond. I know people will bring up Nelson Cruz but he doesn’t play the field. I have to give a slight bump to someone that does play the field, even if it’s poor.
-
I bought 315 Devers cards before the last update and I ended up quick selling them all and finishing the NL collections. I've since finished and gotten Chipper.
I was hoping for Devers to go diamond but it's not that big a deal. I got all I need now.

Everyone always forgets yelich has won a gold glove. So he can play defense too.

Charlie Blackmon did too. Jeter multiple times as well. Take gold gloves with a grain of salt.

Yeah the gold glove doesn’t mean much these days. It’s a popularity contest nowadays

Sox fan here: Devers should not be a diamond with his 3B defense. When JD winds down he is headed for DH (which will probably be a good thing guys like JD and Cruz became way better hitters once they became primarily DHs). If he moved to 1B he might be good enough defensively to be diamond overall. All of this said, outside of investment/quick sell value (which admittedly is why pretty much everyone cares about LS cards after the 1st month) it really doesn’t matter much.

Same with Vlad. He’d probably be Diamond regardless now because of how well he’s been playing this year but it would’ve taken him a bit longer if they kept him as a 3B.

Didn't Rafael Palmeiro win one in 1999? He was a DH with 28 games played at 1B.

so whats the deal?He already has great power against righties. Has he improved vs lefties?
His vision is pretty low on his card. Has he improved his strikeouts? Looks like he is striking out at a 28% clip this year
His fielding is really bad on his card.
2nd in RBIs doesn't really factor into any stat, well maybe clutch. But I am not sure how much clutch effects the ratings.
My guess is that he doesn't go diamond.
