He's really really good. Hits the ball hard and has good speed for a catcher. Defense is a little lacking (for me) but I can attribute at least some of that to having used Weiters and Huff behind the dish for a while now. I don't know that he's worth the 80-90k he's going for right now, but for 50k I think he's a great buy.
I like him and he has taken over the C spot in my God Squad which I have nearly everyone. I think after paralleling him up that defense is pretty solid even though it won't be the best defensive catcher.

I have every card in the game and he is one of my top 3 hitters. Love him.

I couldn't get him to take Huff's spot. Personally, I stick my catcher 8th in the lineup and work out a long AB because I know that most of the time the guy I'm playing will be okay with walking him to get to my pitcher. Their hitting stats aren't vitally important to my usual approach with the 8 hole guy. I hit well with him, but I really didn't have someone else to take that 8 hole role so he didn't stick in my lineup.

Makes sense!
I had Huff there for a little while, but I just wasn't all that impressed with him. Huff was not bad, but just not really impressed. Plus, I like the switch-hitter part and really like Slam-tana's swing over Huff's. Plus his nickname is cool!

Okay, thanks for the quick responses. I think I will pick him up; if I really don’t like him I can always send him back to the market. I’m sure I will enjoy his card though.

77 contact vs right seems meh to me. Plus his price seems to have been manipulated. So I no likey. I’m probably sticking with good ol Jorge until a can’t miss catcher comes.

Posada is the goat. Santana will be 60k in no time

LS Realmuto is the real goat. Everyone underestimates the value of Catcher Pop Time! (Disclaimer: I have collections done and still can't take him out)

I haven't used him but I like his LS card a lot and pretty much do every year. So I imagine this card is pretty good.

Where can we see the catchers pop time??

I just Jimmie at C for now. When I finish the live series collection I'll get Santana, always nice to have a switch hitter in the lineup

It is a quirk, Realmuto and Gary Sanchez are the only catchers who have it.

Can't tell ya... I paid 7,500 stubs for commons and a silver, so I can't use him.
-
How good do you think he would be or is as a first baseman instead

Not the best guitar PRS makes, but it's a good one...

I use Ivan Rodriquez - has a great arm to pick of runners.

He’s my guy too, His IE + PXP take him to like 100 contact 85 power most days, he is so underrated. And for some odd reason he never gets pitched tough in the 8 spot. I sit there thinking why do they always throw him meatballs when my pitcher is up next especially with 2 outs it’s just mind boggling.
That said I do want this Santana he’s just to much RN. He’s one of my favourite Swiss Army knives every year. At the worst he’s a Massive Switch hitter on the bench who can come in for multiple slow positions that may need pinch runners at some point. Awesome tool, JT just never needs a pinch runner or hitter haha.

I am buying Santana for sure, just waiting for his price to depress a little.

Since I already own Matt Wieters (and I'm still working on Paralleling him) -- I haven't used Santana much after I picked him up for around 69K. With his price, I'm glad that I did choose to pick him up in case I hit a slump with Wieters. That said, I have been using Santana as a pinch-hitter a bit and from what I've seen so far, I like a lot. His swing is quick and easy, the ball seems to jump off his bat and I love the fact that he's not clogging the bases with 52 speed (which is fast for a catcher) and I really love that he has 125 Plate Discipline -- as I'm someone who check-swings a lot.
Overall, I'd say that both he and Wieters are easily my favorite players at the position and are well worth picking up whoever you prefer of the two.
On a side note though, it's insane how many great options there are at catcher already! Obviously I think highly of Wieters and Santana but I also have gotten good production from TA2 Jimmie Foxx (he was my backup catcher prior to picking up Santana). Then you've also got TA2 Sam Huff and Johnny Bench; neither of which I have used aside from Showdown yet but I've heard good things about both. Plus there's still Adley Rutschman, Salvador Perez, and the 1st Inning Mike Piazza -- not to mention, Live Series J.T. Realmuto, who I raked with before getting Wieters. All in all, I'm glad they haven't held back the good catcher cards like they usually do.
