So, someone out here gave this big long convoluted dissertation about how pitcher confidence effects the game. In theory, it sounded like it had merit. Sounded really scientific, statistical, and genius on SDS part.
Then I started reading some replies to that which actually underscored, exactly, why SDS brings all these new "supplements" into the game like PINPOINT PITCHING. According to many posts about "confidence" and other wacko determiners of outcomes..it's so a gaming company can hide behind these numbers..use them as a rationalization to programmatically generate animation that doesn't match controller input.
The more numbers and determiners they can suggest (like confidence, pinpoint pitching, etc.) guides the animation the more they can say "Get gud". When, in reality, every layer of snake-oil they lay out there makes it less likely anyone could ever get better at a game that doesn't, at all, emphasize a consistent physics-aware environment that sustains any progress through practice.
Anyway, that's the suggestion of many that have dissected confidence over the past seasons. Makes sense.
Fake it until you make it!

Have you played this game a lot, or is this something you're trying to currently figure out? I ask because it's pretty clear how confidence hurts pitching. This is true in showdowns, conquest, BR, RS, all over the game.
The best way to get your pitchers confidence back up after giving up a run or a HR is by doing a mound visit. It makes a HUGE difference, and very few people realize how important that is.

No one will ever be able to create a sports video game when your input entirely controls the outcome

I believe confidence has effect..until the AI needs to create a desired outcome then it doesn't.
So, like everything else, your swing..your pitch..your speed on the base-paths. They are all very meaningful..until they aren't. And why this game doesn't really reward skill...until it does.

If your pitcher starts getting hit around a little get him a mound visit or get him out of there ASAP.
Pitcher confidence is one of the strongest factors if the hitter is gonna have success, Just like energy.
This is very apparent at the beginning of games when pitchers start with pretty good confidence. If they throw a couple shutout inning and some strikeout, even good good swings become outs. It’s very important to score early on guys if possible, or then be patient enough at the plate to get there energy down. Breaking pitches break less the more the pitchers energy is down.
Understanding the mechanics of the game are important to getting results especially if you aren’t a PCI God.

Pitcher confidence is one of about 15 things that impact hit chance, just like hot zones and where a pitch is located in relation to swinging early or late. Just like swing types and where you trying to hit certain pitchers with certain swing types. It all matters, that’s why SDS doesn’t break it all down, people think it’s just the PCI and feedback.
A full hitting breakdown from the Devs would probably be a 2-3 hour stream most people wouldn’t be able to understand fully. They don’t even understand being slightly under and away from a pitch your early on = a moonshot to the pull side.
-
i think pin point pitching should be thrown out of the game. sds is adding a dynamic that has nothing to do with the game of baseball to achieve accuracy. your playing another smaller equational game so to speak that evidently in their minds dictates your mechanics and conditioning to achieve spots that has absolutely nothing to do with baseball

Ok, but what do any of the other pitching methods have to do with baseball? The answer is nothing, so that's not a valid complaint since it can be applied to all of them.

Moving a stick up and down to throw a pitch has nothing to do with actual baseball either though.

Very good. And it exactly supports the arguments out there that the more RNG factors are laid on the game..the more code controls the outcomes not the real-life physics. Being controller input.
Eventually we'll just sit and watch these games. It will just be pure CGI and AI will animate would have actually happened if you had been using a controller to play. Perhaps a little stretch, but not a lot.

So no pitching methods should be in the game? Because that argument applied to all of them. I guess we just don't pitch?

yes but the buttons are not accuracy specific....this convo is above your pay grade friend.

i do not use pinpoint pitching at all and i 3 hit someone with 14k yesterday who had way more wins than i do......jmo it should not be in the game

No...I don't believe it is.

imagine this
you either
paid for
work your [censored] off
got in a lucky pack of cardsto get the pitcher of your fitting but now instead of enjoying playing the game using him as a pitcher you have to play another equational game to achieve accuracy when his stats show good accuracy "already" in order to use him effectively. to me thats bs....

Ok, so what if you did, how exactly does that = remove pinpoint. Your argument was it's not realistic to baseball, but every single pitching method in this game isn't realistic to baseball. Analog, meter, classic, any method isn't realistic, so where is a legitimate argument to remove it?
-
removing pin point techniques gives the batter a better picture of what is coming at him. its more human like and prone to more human error. your pitcher is less computer like if you can kinda see what i mean. that can be positive or negative

So, wadda ya think would? Throwing your freaking controller at the screen. Put a little spin on it with a knuckle grip. Go all Wii with it.
Don't know if this is to make an excuse for the games failings (meter sucks) or to say Pinpoint Pitching is actually more similar to "real-life".
All I'm suggesting is the game is fun. But the game is also not a simulation. It's more a cartoon. That sounds derogatory but not intended. The Show is a very great source of entertainment..ya just got to keep perspective and understand you don't get better by adhering to the hype and marketing suggestions.

I have no idea what you mean here.
