So, someone out here gave this big long convoluted dissertation about how pitcher confidence effects the game. In theory, it sounded like it had merit. Sounded really scientific, statistical, and genius on SDS part.
Then I started reading some replies to that which actually underscored, exactly, why SDS brings all these new "supplements" into the game like PINPOINT PITCHING. According to many posts about "confidence" and other wacko determiners of outcomes..it's so a gaming company can hide behind these numbers..use them as a rationalization to programmatically generate animation that doesn't match controller input.
The more numbers and determiners they can suggest (like confidence, pinpoint pitching, etc.) guides the animation the more they can say "Get gud". When, in reality, every layer of snake-oil they lay out there makes it less likely anyone could ever get better at a game that doesn't, at all, emphasize a consistent physics-aware environment that sustains any progress through practice.
Anyway, that's the suggestion of many that have dissected confidence over the past seasons. Makes sense.
Fake it until you make it!
