Bartolo Colon hit .084, I am miles more athletic and coordinated than he is. I have a good build and am in my physical prime.... and I basically only need to hit half as well as Colon.
Ok dude just stop. Now you’re asserting that you’re a better athlete than Bartolo based on what evidence? Please enlighten us!!! Because he’s fat??? Because he doesn’t run fast?? Because he is a terrible hitter??? How about these facts!!! He’s a former cy young award winner, finished in the top five for the gold glove at his position several times. He has actually hit a home run. He has posted several videos on social media of his workout regimen. The dudes a lot more athletic than you give him credit for and my guess is at the age of 48 he would still blow you away at plate with his 89 mph fastball that he can dot anywhere in the strike zone that he chooses. But you continue embarrassing yourself with these outlandish claims and we’ll continue rolling our eyes at your ignorance.
He’s good at baseball, he’s not athletic. This isn’t really something disputed
Kinda like how you’re athletic and NOT good at baseball.
There's a YT video of a guy who's never played before making contact with 95 MPH after like 6 days of practice.
My form and swing is already better than said guy, for example, his back foot appeared to move too much and his swing was longer and loopier than mine.
If he can still make contact with 95, I should be able to make solid contact with MLB pitching. Granted there will be offspeed mixed in, but who knows, maybe I hit the offspeed better. I also get many more chances than the dude from the video, I get 20 ABs.
It's ridiculous how quickly people in this thread dismiss the possibility of a hit. If you believe I'm underestimating MLB pitchers (which again, most of my argument is based off probability, so that doesn't matter) than you're certainly overestimating how good MLB pitchers are.
Did you ever stop to realize when everybody on the forum roasted you and not a single soul backed you up that maybe, just maybe, you were wrong? But hey, maybe those days of middle school ball will pay off. Go get em tiger!
The people arguing haven’t brought up anything besides anecdotal evidence either
you made the claim. the burden of proof is on you

its not about anyone's estimation of mlb pitchers. its that you haven't hit live pitching since middle school. Also no 2 people are the same, maybe that guy has faster reaction time, faster hands. so many things go into hitting that you cant just say you'll pick up a major league bat for the first time and expect to hit. even in 20 ABs

Hey guys, I just saw some guy on YouTube shoot a hole in one at the 17th at TPC Sawgrass. It doesn’t look that hard. Bet you I can do that given 20 tries.

Except a hole in one is hard even for professionals. Getting a hit simply isn't the equivalent

Genuine question, what would make you think I’m a worse hitter than the worst statistical hitting pitcher ever, when pitchers often don’t even hit from high school on and can still hit .050 at MINIMUM in the MLB

You're completely discounting the fact that there's an average defense out there too. The current average mlb babip is roughly .300. I don't think you could get 3-4 non bunts in play in 20 at bats and even if you did the odds are you aren't squaring up balls like an average major leaguer.
Random bloop hit? Sure possible but if you offered me even betting odds I'm taking 0-20 with at least 15ks (even with bunts).

You’re wrong. I hadn’t played baseball since high school and joined an adult league at age 27. I had to relearn just about everything. Fielding came back relatively quickly.. hitting is a whole different story. If you haven’t even seen high school pitching, I doubt you even touch a single pitch. Have you even used a wood bat?
Watch the video, it doesn't look too fast, if I get 20 ABs I can just sit fastball and take a swing in the zone, that's probably 100 pitches so statistically I should connect with one and find a hole I feel like.
Bro... It’s a lot harder than you think haha. I don’t think you’d get a hit in 20 ABs against a Single A pitcher. Unless you played high level baseball into your 20s, you aren’t touching a thing without a ton of training and practice.
The worst hitting pitcher ever had about a .045 OBP in the MLB. Most pitcher only players still take BP and stuff so that’s not surprising, but that goes out the window since this is the worst hitting pitcher ever, in all likelihood, I can hit better than the worst hitting pitcher ever, and being an 18 yo male with a decent build, I think I could.
You said it all in one sentence, an 18 year old lol. You’re super young. I’m 30 and I can already tell you everything is easier said than done, and more things are harder than you think. Good to believe in yourself but it’s another thing to be realistic lol

Not all MLB pitchers did, if they’re a good pitching prospect they’re a PO nowadays, don’t know why that’s hard to wrap your head around

Because I don’t think I could do it consistently, I just think I could get 1 hit in 20 consecutive at bats. I also probably could have played HS but I had switched schools after MS and my new school didn’t offer it. I would not have been a star player however

Based on what I’ve seen looking at pitcher hitting stats and knowing what I know about good batting technique and having a good eye, I think 1-for-20 in 20 consecutive at bats isn’t too unrealistic. I’m not saying I’d be good enough to be even a single A player by any means, I just think with that many pitches all consecutively I could sit on something and eventually get a hit
-
I’d like to emphasize that I don’t think this is because MLB pitchers are bad, I just think that most adults aged 18-30 who have played baseball for 5 or so years at any level and know good technique and are in good physical condition would have a better chance than they think.
I think people can sometimes overestimate the skills of pro athletes a little bit, and as much as you think I’m underestimating them (which again, that’s not my argument at all) you are probably overestimating them.
