Title. If you had a few long tem investments you wanted to try, and didn't have the stubs to invest HUGE, would you buy stubs to do so?

I wouldn’t buy stubs just for one investment. I’d make sure I have enough beforehand

No, Stubs are easy to make playing the game, easy to flip cards to get more stubs.

I’m surprised how easy it is to make stubs this year. I haven’t spent a dime and all I have left for collections is the NL East. It’s the most expensive division, but that’s still most of it done without money

Nope. It's easy to make stubs. If you are low on bankroll start small and work your way up to bigger flips. I'm at roughly 400k right now after buying out the NL West (LA & SD), AL East (everyone except Tor), Wash, Phil, & Hous this morning leaving me just the big 3 NYM, ATL, & Ana.

To those that said no because it's easy to make stubs just by playing:

This is actually for my kid. He can only play on the weekends due to weekly commitments. And when he does play; he plays only for 2-3 hours all weekend.

So, that's why I asked. He wants to try playing the market but won't have enough time to play the game PLUS spend time flipping.
    .
I'm thinking if just buying him a 150K pack of stubs and letting him invest from that.

It's your $$ do as you see fit. I'm just saying it's quite easy to make a big enough bankroll to then invest. I've made about 75k in about 4h today and that's a light day.

That said if you want to buy stubs I would suggest waiting for a stub sale which might not be too far off. They've got the servers issues fixed for the most part which I could see them not wanting to do a sale during that mess for the sake of optics.

Stubs add up fast playing the game, and you get free packs playing the game. A lot of free packs in the TA program. He can play vs CPU or play CQ and load a team of player from the same division and eat up the innings and do the mission as he gets players from packs that have missions. Moments give stubs not a ton but they add up, If he does the topps Now moments he can sell off those cards if he does not care to do the collections but there usually is a bigger collection for this later in the year.

I would definitely pay for stubs in a situation like this. I have a 16 year old who has a similar schedule...it is baseball season right now and he gets pretty frustrated at my ability to make stubs. I explain to him that he has such little time to play that he uses his time to play...where I spend way too much time playing the market. My wife always says "Time is money and money is time". While you can play for a few minutes and get a few stubs to start...it is easier to start with a bit more. This is my first year playing and while I was able to make stubs...the process got faster once I pulled Acuna and sold him. Then I had enough to really do something with.

Haha I thought last year was easy but it's even easier this year to make stubs. At the rate I'm going I'll end up finishing the LS collection within a week or two without spending $ on stubs or pulling any of the big names. i just wish i had bought Acuna before he skyrocketed. I looked at him the night before and thought 190k was too much.

Yeah, if you don’t feel like grinding the market and saving stubs from moments and programs. That can take awhile, depending on how big your going. Me personally I don’t put anything else in after launch week. I always buy the Digital Deluxe and put $100 in for stubs now. When I first started DD, I never put anything in.. it feels great finishing collections without spending but takes awhile. Just putting $100 in made a night and day difference. I just always make sure to have so much on the side as the year goes on to invest for roster updates and flipping.

    I say DO IT!

Looks like a short list until you read the names. Thats like a million stubs+.

Regarding OP, no I wouldn't. Not only because stubs are easy enough to earn (along with free cards/packs etc), I just dont find working the market to be enjoyable enough to do it more than I need to for obtaining certain cards.

My level of investment essentially ends at making sure I dont lose stubs on potential diamonds that gets upgraded because I didn't want to pay 4k when he was a gold.

In this case; I think waiting for a stub sale may hinder his opportunity to invest.

I know Diamonds usually increase in cost when a stub sale hits. Not sure about Commons, Bronzes, and Silvers.

Yes in general a stub sale will increase prices on diamonds. But if you're talking about investments those will still be there and I wouldn't guess you'd be suggesting to invest in the big ticket items that would get a big boost with a stub sale. 20-30k cards might go up a couple k with a stub sale. Guys like Trout might go up 30-50k depending on the start price when the sale hits. But again it's your money so you get the ultimate decision. Just giving my .02 which I'm not even sure is worth .02. lol

Hmmm. I'll have to think about it. Some of the players he wants to invest in may get bumped next week. I don't see a stub sale happening until Memorial Day weekend.
