Respectfully I disagree. A batter needs the option to slow down a pitcher. Your plan would be 3 seconds and then rapid fire pitches every at bat.
There should be a 2 second window before each pitch where the pitcher can't pitch. A pitch every 2 seconds is plenty fast for pace of play, and 2 seconds is long enough to do whatever you want with the r2. It removes the cheese because for those 2 seconds the pitcher won't be able to start their windup and after those 2 seconds the batter can no longer r2. I would almost guarantee the time between most pitches in most online games is ~2 seconds anyway.
.
They could implement like a balk kind of rule or something

So bring back balks?! Problem solved!

Now wait a minute here, "a batter needs to have a way to slow down a pitcher" ??? A batter has absolutely no control over when a pitcher is to pitch.
R2 should not be allowed to stop anything, if you want time, call time, that is real baseball. R2 should still be able to display info, but not stop the pitchers meter.
In principle, I agree with you, but there are people who pitch as fast as they can, and there absolutely needs to be a mechanism to neutralize that.

Allow only One Press of R2 PER AT Pitch at 3 seconds your choice.
This will satisfy both sides....
Side One (Your not going to quick pitch me clan) They can slow down the at bat by 3 seconds whatever you choose.
Side Two (messing with my PPP or other pitching clan) once they see that they pressed R2 they know it can’t happen again that at bat so they don’t have to worry.
Or you can suck it up and watch for the icon at the top when it appears and wait til it disappears and then pitch instead of posting some elaborate "fix" that noone gets behind

Not sure if it was in this thread or another that I described this, but I'm going to repeat myself because this is important for some people to realise -- you can do exactly this, on every pitch, and they'll just press it again. I know this because I experienced it on every pitch during online gameplay recently. R2 being pressed, I would wait. It would stop, and I would give it a second or two just to make sure, and then it would be pressed again. Eventually I would get to pitch but are you really suggesting that just waiting out nearly 200 R2 presses is the best solution here? What possible justification could there be for pressing R2 at least twice before every pitch?
Before someone jumps in that I was quick-pitching and this is how to slow me down, please consider that because I was waiting for R2 pressing to stop twice before every pitch, that it would be impossible for me to be quick-pitching. Obviously.

Balks only works with runners on base so it ain’t a fix

R2 is simply the batter holding up his hand in the batters box for the umpire to slow down the pitcher until he is ready, so it most definitely has a purpose in this game. I use R2 but only to see confidence or check patterns. I will use it occasionally for quick pitching, which I am guilty of sometimes also. I have not seen anyone hold R2 as others are saying, however, I have seen numerous players try and speed through pitching when I have players on base to try and cheese me. This is a much bigger problem than holding R2 in my experience. Turn balks on and R2 off and the problem is solved.
Excellent that’s why I suggested 3 seconds to hold R2 once per at bat to simulate this hands up to ump that happens in real life. You explained it much better than me.
My question is do you use Pin Point pitching? I do and many others do and I would say about half of the people I play when they figure out that I am using PPP press R2 multiple times an at bat to try to mess me up.
So dam true

the R2 button is designed for those who do not want scumbags to quick pitch them to slow down. Most of you complaining about it are probably quick pitchers (not an accusation here just an observation) and I'll admit I am to a degree but when I bat I do hold R2 occassionally so I can have the 3 seconds I need in between. If doing that is so wrong and you want a game where you can pitch however fast you want without delay RBI Baseball continues to make [censored] poor arcade baseball. Go play that or as I said before....suck it up and stop complaining

If you read through and think and again not being disrespectful this is not about quick pitching or any of that... This is about people abusing R2 multiple times in a at bat and by abuse I mean pressing R2 really quick (not even long enough to check stamina or confidence or for that matter slow down the pitcher ect) to make the input of the Pitcher especially on Pinpoint to jack up. It is completely different

My take on this is twofold.
1st, R2 in past years would prevent you from starting your delivery. You would be "stuck" on the pitch location screen and pressing X to confirm the pitch location would just not be allowed as long as R2 was being held. With PPP, it seems to affect the actual mechanic/timing of the actual pitch as the player is using it. This is simply not acceptable. Now I haven't played online this year yet nor do I use PPP (meter pitching is all my old hands can muster), but I would bet anything that as long as ANY sort of advantage can be gained against another player in online, people WILL exploit it. This may not be true of 100% of the community, but most people will and do. It is an unfortunate side effect of Events, BR and RS. I won't go inta a whole rant about online ranking, but I think SDS has gone some way to alleviate it this year with X wins = WS Pack. I actually applaud them for it. I have a whole idea on how the online RS ranking and matching system could work, but this isn't the place for it.
That being said, forcing a pitcher to come set can have repercussions on the OFFLINE portion of the game. When I play a 9 inning vs CPU game or ANY mode like CONQUEST or MOMENTS, forcing my pitcher to come set just adds time to the game. it might be minimal, but it is still there. BALKS can be turned off during vs CPU games, but if they create a mechanic for forcing the pitcher to come set or preventing the pitcher to pitch for a full 2 or 3 seconds , this will not be mode specific, but will be hardcoded to pitching in all modes since the engine cannot differentiate between vs human or vs CPU. It can by the "settings rules" not apply the balk rule, but the balk is still recorded, just not called.
There is no easy solution or fix this year because of the inclusion of PPP. My suggestion is to go back to the previous years and R2 will prevent the pitcher from selecting the pitch location until 3 seconds or no longer pressed. After that, R2 should do nothing.

I love that this R2 debate is raging on, now that you can see when it is being used on screen.
In previous years, you guys were all denying it even did anything.
The shoe is on the other foot.
“We need a solution!!!”
There is no solution. There will always be players that try to exploit the game mechanics for any advantage.

True, you can’t. However, what you’re suggesting puts one side at a distinct disadvantage. Why should one player get to dictate the pace of the game?

True, you can’t. However, what you’re suggesting puts one side at a distinct disadvantage. Why should one player get to dictate the pace of the game?
Because in baseball the pitcher does dictate the pace, allowing R2 to stop the play is not the solution. Some pitchers like to work fast, see Wade Miley for example, many others don't. In real life it's best to work at different paces to keep the batter uneasy. But no matter how you slice it, in real baseball pace is dictated by pitcher. All a batter can do is call for time, that is also in the game. Balks on, help elevate some of the issues about coming set, but if the batter is in the box, it is no longer his control and to expect the pitcher to throw when he is ready is unrealistic. Baseball is a game of adjustments, when I play people online, I know I need to adjust to how I am going to be pitched. Just as I know my opponent will steal a lot, hit and run a lot, bunt a lot, way more than playing the CPU.

Except for the fact that the batter can only call time once in an at-bat. The problem with people that pitch so fast is that with most pitchers, it creates completely unrealistic movement. How is this so hard to understand?

How hard is it to understand that it's easier to adjust to movement, than it is for you to get your pitch nterface interrupt.
