Custom Sliders affecting player perks

Hello, as the title says im curious if you use custom sliders will that affect your ability to earn or upgrade player perks for your builds. Like for my batter when i hit i have the sparkplug perk which is bronze, can i use custom stliders and still earn the upgrades for the perk or do i have to actually stick with default sliders
