Boy, this game is pretty busted in its current state. Yet, I’m already playing rtts way more than I did in ‘19 or ‘20. The last few installments have felt pretty stale to me. I would get all excited to see what new and/or exciting features would be added and...well, nothing really new and/or exciting was added.

All further comments are for my experience. I am in no way suggesting that my experience should be the benchmark for game design.

What’s making me play more right now is the sheer difficulty of progressing my player. It is slow and downright tedious. (My role progression points are currently functioning properly). But doesn’t it seem like the real life progression of a ballplayer would be slow and tedious? Actions in game with their corresponding bonuses seem meaningful for the first time in awhile. Penalties for failing are much more severe. Strikeouts are killing my Plate Discipline rating!

The new perk system is flawed but it is new. Sure, it’s just a variation on the Archetype system but they are giving us a little more control of how we want to shape our player. It is still limited but I much prefer this to the cookie cutter Archetypes in previous iterations of MLB The Show. The choices for secondary perks are tricky because of the trade offs of losing certain ability points. I kind of like mulling over what I’m willing to give up for just a bit more Contact ability.

Now I understand I may be in a minority of players who want the “road to the show” to be long and difficult. I totally understand the desire to come out of the gates as the greatest player to ever step between the lines. For this reason I always wished there was a progression difficulty level. This will never happen because of rtts being linked to DD now.

These are just some of my thoughts. If things eventually get fixed I believe I will enjoy this rtts much more than the last few. Anyone else have similar thoughts about the potential for the new systems? Or, I’m totally fine with being called an idiot haha!

I am in the same boat brother. Game is a blast and once the bug from update gets fixed i think could be a great thing for future of RTTS. Great post and good luck! 🙂

I’m actually noticing that my progress is slow as far as rating, but I was in the middle of my double a season on hall of fame difficulty as a pitcher/center fielder and was just moved up to triple a

I have mostly enjoyed it so far but I can see it becoming a more of a grind than I have time for. But i have not hit any of the bugs that people have been reporting. I also hate that we lost carry over saves because I don't want to constantly repeat the double A and triple A grind every single year when a new copy is released.

I see your point, but I like starting over every year because I try to do better each year and try different positions. It’s tough right now for me to progress, though because I’m a two way player, SP and CF so I have to progress my pitching and hitting and fielding ratings I’m a 64 overall as a pitcher and a 55 overall in CF. I didn’t even know you could have two ratings! But I haven’t had any problems with this game either

I think it is an obvious downgrade to the past way RTTS was implemented. That being said, I have had fun when everything is working right. The problem is that the perk progression is not working, so pretty much every game that I play does not count towards my development. This outright breaks the mode and makes it so that there is no reason to play until it is fixed. I don't like the loadout system as a design concept because it is not realistic. I cannot drastically change my real world attributes on a whim on a game to game basis. If I work on hitting my speed does not decrease. If i work on my fielding, my power does not decrease. It makes no sense for a mode that was supposed to emulate a baseball career. You could actually build an archetype the way you wanted last year, you just had to pick what starting stats you wanted most. But the way training worked, you were able to mold that archetype and change it however you wanted,I think that is superior to this system, but as I said, I am enjoying it still when everything is working. So far that has been for maybe an hour.

I wish we could play rtts like in years past with adjusted sliders and difficulty. Also being able to get xp and stubs would be great if they brought this back as well. Playing on default sliders would take a while to progress and level up.

I’m looking forward to it once the patch comes through for the progression bug. In past years, what was the point in continuing to play past 2 or 3 seasons when you’re hitting 130 homers a year out of the gate? I’ll take the grind this time and it’ll get me into DD for the first time as a player so I’ll give it a shot before I [censored] on the mode

That's how you approach it 3 days in. It will get fixed and it will be fun. 👍

Once you rank up your ballplayer, if you start a new career in rtts.. does your ballplayer start with the same levels as the player you've already ranked up... or is it a brand new progression?
