At the end of the day, I agree with you guys on how bad of a problem it was this past year.
Historically speaking, gameplay has been drastically different from the Beta each year so fingers crossed.
But halfbutt is right, whether it’s the check swings, foul tips, line outs, bunt cheese or whatever you want to name from that long list of junk. There will always be something keeping casual players competitive.
They need a complete makeover of the competitive format for this game. Again though, fingers crossed for 21

Legitimate sounding excuses, most often in the form of blaming aspects of the game like checkswings, not getting rewarded, etc are used to cushion the blow to our egos by making ourselves believe that we were not in control and that we were victims of something outside of ourselves. It’s a fundamental defense mechanism in psychology called “rationalization”.
I know I’ll get a lot of pushback for not validating the struggles here. Certainly not out to do that. I’m not a good player by any means, but from starting MLBTS (this past May I think), I enjoy the game a lot because I take what the game offers and use it to my best ability.

It’s good that you enjoy it for what it has to offer. I wish I could do the same and ignore these things, I guess I need to learn to tone the competitive spirit down a bit, clearly it will benefit me a lot.
Anyway, that player was bailed out of at least 6 or 7 more strikeouts. He earned walks he didn’t deserve by abusing a broken mechanic thus bringing my pitchers confidence down and forcing the meatballs he got.
His best season was 643 and somehow he managed to get up to the low 700s. So it’s very clear that he was swinging away because he couldn’t catch up to hof speeds and was hoping for fastball, if not FB checkswing. That was my WS game and I lost 26 points there. I was clearly the better player even tho I lost, sometimes you just can’t beat them and the game as well

To hear that it was your WS game honesty cuts deeply. I can’t imagine. That reallllly sucks! Kudos for getting that far!

Excellent pitch tunneling....I bet all the strikeouts were fastballs that were not recognized in time. Every time I throw one, it is sent to the seats.

Eh. Not necessarily. I have absolutely been winning and saw my own reward make zero sense and it has a annoyed me to the point I offer a friendly quit. The games broke. There are many things about it that are broke. Aside from all the lineouts by one team countered by horrible contact success by their opponent. The ball path of where you see it and where it says it ends up is totally wrong which just adds to the games frustration. This has been proven.
Reality is people do not want to accept that mlb the show has been a random series of algorithims for the last 4 years— especially the people that have had success — because they want to believe they are really good in the gameplay...
The games random. You can be on the ball for 9 straight innings with out scoring any runs while your opponent can strike out 20 times and win. It happens all the time. And people chalk it up to “that’s baseball” instead of demanding a better experience

Go into your settings and turn check swings off(or whatever option is used) and try a game. Believe it should work on dd because I haven’t seen a check swing in a while

Smh. Dude you couldn’t be more wrong here. This isn’t the mlb. It’s a controller. Check swinging is not skill based in this game. It’s a bail out for people to sit fast ball and never have to chase the off speed.- the people that use it consistently would never see pennant race in games past and now they are getting to WS.

a ton of people (myself included) use check swings to check our timing, and with a check swing, you get the feedback. I check swing on strikes in the zone, placed in a location I don't like. It's a strike either way, and I get specific feedback on my timing without making contact.
MLB guys do this on virtually every pitch. You see them go through their stride to time things up. The video game doesn't give us this option, so check swinging is the next best thing.

20 has catapulted some of the worst players to be able to compete with things like check swings and forced mistakes.
