Clarity on the new pitching mechanic?

Are the instructions for the new 2k-style pitching mechanic clear to anyone? I've been trying to figure it out in the practice setting to no avail, and the little description blurb offered in the practice mode hasn't been too helpful to me.
Are we supposed to be timing it with the animation of the pitcher, by hitting the little blue targets at certain points in the pitcher's wind-up animation? Are we supposed to hold the ball icon in one target area for a set amount of time (and getting the ball into that area at a specific time rather than right away), and then continue with the analog motion to the second target area in a second specific time?
This new pitching mechanic has me super excited, so any clarity that can be offered would be greatly appreciated.

dude you cant talk about the tech test outside of the tech test forums, how hard is that to understand
