Cobb and bunting
-
Every time I see Ty Cobb, the opponent is bunting with him. It’s almost without fail. I played against him again tonight and I was surprised when the person actually swung away in one of his at-bats.
That said, it’s also almost always perfect bunts to the 2B. I don’t get it.
Whenever I try to bunt, it’s a massive failure (Honus was out at second on a good pitcher bunt yesterday). When my opponents try, it’s almost always a hit. I don’t get how they bunt so well. It’s a mess for me every time. And if I’m facing Cobb, it’s no chance. What gives?
On a semi-related note, I’ve also run into a ton of opponents lately bunting with two strikes (and being successful at times). What the heck?

Bunt defense + 2B in.

I have your bunt luck also. Sac bunting with the pitcher? Pop up every time. Bunt with Rickey when the 3rd baseman is way back? Pop up. I don’t even bother anymore.
On a Cobb note... reminded me of a game I played earlier. Opponent takes 2-3 step lead with any player on base, including Cobb. Even on 2nd. All are fast. Can’t even combat half of them with a step off as they take off and are so fast they get to 3rd on a throw back to 2nd. Something up with my button accuracy fielding as the meter kept staying on red and I overthrew the base about 4 times. Couldn’t pitch out - L1+X wasn’t working.
Got him a couple of times as I shifted my fielders around but he kept doing it so I gave up trying as I wasn’t going to beat him (I was hitting like tripe). So I just played the game until the end.
The best part of that experience? He was a 900+ player and wasted nearly an hour of his time for a miserly 2 points
Justice.

I always throw the first pitch way out of the zone to see if he bunts. If he’s bunting, it’s an easy strike 1 and it shows that you know he’s up to shenanigans. Then I’ll move my defense in after getting some early count leverage.
