HOF:2021 has empty class as Curt Schilling, Barry Bonds fall short
-
-
Wasn't Clemens at 74.9% at one point? Lol
-
Dang, wasnt even close. Schilling finished closest at 71.1% no one else even in the ball park.
-
I believe there were 12 empty ballets. I had a feeling no one would get in this year. I thought that Scott Rollen might have a chance but even that seemed like a longshot.

I do believe Rolen gets in eventually, but he gets screwed basically for playing third base. He is by almost every statistical metric a top 10 3B of all time but writers always overlook 3B compared to other positions

As soon as A-Rod is eligible, all the steroid guys will get in.
They wont be able to get in via voters ballot. Their eligibility will be over. They will have to hope for the Veterans committee to get them in.

This is a big blow to Cooperstown. Lots of small businesses rely on HOF week to essentially make their yearly income. Mptels, restraunts, memorobilia shops, and places renting out space for autographs. Not to mention any old timers left that still rely on autographs and meet and greets for income. I use to live 2-3 hours from there and go every year with my dad when I was younger.

I actually heard that if they decide to they will do last years ceremony class this year. But just like last years was scrapped because of COVID this years is still not decided on. So they still have a class to use for an induction ceremony regardless. Jeter and Walker.
Also it would be horrible to vote guys in just for the fact to help that local economy anyways.

Right.. That's not the point I was making... But... The hall, in my opinion has made some questionable inductions over the years and the fact that there is a number of years of eligibility kind of leads me to believe the intention was to induct someone every year as a celebration. The eligibility time allows for some planning ahead, I don't think it was ever meant to be a punishment.
So, playing the devils advocate, you ask people to invest and create a haven and shrine to baseball in the middle of nowhere that's main draw is a yearly celebration of the games best and newest member/s. I think it was intended to be a yearly thing.

I see what you did there
-
Kenesaw Mountain Landis was extremely fortunate social media did not exist back when he was inducted.

We will see come this time next year. I'm really interested to see how much support A-Rod and Ortiz get next year from the voters. The big difference between them and Bonds/Clemens/Sosa is that the Media actually likes A-Rod and Papi
-
Bonds, Clemens, Ramirez, Sosa, Sheffield, McGwire, Palmeiro....all not in due to steroid use or heavy association with use. I'm not sure how A-Rod or Papi could be justified in being selected. In Ortiz's case, Manfred has helped cast some doubt on the legitimacy of the positive test, which could possibly help his case.

All not in yet

They all deserve to be in. We have players in that should not be if you talking about a substance of any kind to help your play on the field. What they used before Roids was Greenies. Lets punish players for using Roids which baseball knew it was being used and turned a blind eye and did nothing about it. The Hall of Fame can make shrines of players from different times based on bad characters and players who had no integrity . Not all HOF players had good character or had perfect integrity. Hank Aaron is known to have used Greenies as have others. Writers back then either had no idea or did not care. Roids was important for baseball after the 94 strike. Where would baseball be without those years of Sosa, McGwire, Bonds in the Mid late 90's. I believe it is what brought fans back. Brought in lots of revenue to baseball after the strike in 94. Bonds and Clemens would differently have been in with out the Roids and Palmeiro was on his way as well. I think McGwire overall numbers are boarder line HOF.

I agree completely. I just want some consistency among the voters. There are plenty already in the Hall that used some sort of substance to improve their game. Either all the deserving ones are in, or they are all out. If Selig actually enforced testing for steroid use and they still got caught using(I'm looking at Manny Ramirez here), then I don't have a problem with them not being in the Hall. What basically happened was that Bonds, McGwire, and Sosa saved the game of baseball and Bud Selig and the HOF said F you instead of thank you. The Hall of fame is a museum of the history of the game and its without some of the best and most important players in that game's history(Bonds, Clemens, Rose, and Shoeless Joe in particular).

I could not agree more with you. Very well said. That is exactly what Selig did . Shoeless Joe should be in one of my favorite movies Eight Men Out. Pete Rose should be in as well as a player.

I just read Shoeless Joe Jackson is in the Indians HOF
-
Bonds deserves to be in the HOF, never tested positive for PEDs. If being a [censored] made you ineligible then 1/2 the players wouldn't be there
