DD Idea 2021

I think it's a good idea. I would actually like it
-
I don't think it makes any significant impact on strategy, it would just be an annoyance. Having to use more cards because some occasionally get tired isn't "strategy" imo.
-
I would be in for it certainly. Would help from facing the same lineups every game, and would prepare us for when the NL eventually gets a DH, which this would be an absolutely necessary feature in this game if pitchers didn't hit

Would it though? The idea presented says resting a game here or there, you'd still likely see the same lineups every game. There will always be a meta.
I'm not trying to poo on the idea, but people always think that changes will just magically make metas go away and that magically card diversity will happen, and that's just not the reality of online gameplay, especially in the sports genre

It would be to an extent. You would at least see cards like Cobb and Walker mixed into the outfield Instead of the same Combo of Trout/Mantle/Griffey/Soto/Mays. I agree that the same cards will likely be used, but you aren't going to see Trout EVERY single game this way. I do stand firm that this would be a necessary feature with a DH in DD though. Otherwise what is stopping anyone from using Terrance gore as a pinch runner instead of Cobb, Rickey, Brock etc. When it comes to the point there will eventually be a DH in DD, you need to give people incentive to build a Bench too

Idk about you, but I already see Cobb quite a bit in ranked and Walker was used quite heavily during the middle stretch of the games life cycle
And as for your last point, the bench would be used for platoons, no one is going to put Terrance Gore in for pinch-running when they can have Rickey to put in vs lefties or Cobb vs righties etc. That's not a scenario that makes sense.
Add into that that this idea doesn't give any reason to build a "bench", You'd presumably see the stamina before you even loaded up a game, so you swap out players then, not during the game where the bench would play a role.

I like that you are thinking creatively, OP, but I think the game needs to be simpler, not even more complicated. There are already SO many attributes and game mechanics, many of which we don’t understand the impact of.
I’d rather see the gameplay be more consistent, and while seeing the same lineups does get a bit stale, I care more about HOW the game plays than what faces are on the players.

Would you guys be interested in seeing energy having an impact on positional players as well next year?
While many might say, “no way in he11” this could allow for some opportunities to use bench players a bit more, adding a bit of strategy.
Now, I am not saying they would need five games rest, but rather a game or two here and there.
I think that if it wasn’t overpowered it could be cool. The less energy they have, some attributes dip slightly. Would make the durability factor in the game actually mean something.
I could appreciate this for sure. Energy for position players only makes sense
-
Especially for Ripken and Gehrig.
GET THOSE GUYS OUT OF THE LINEUP!!!
-
You know what would change the meta is making contact hitters actually mean something and not rewarding a HR or nothing mentality.
-
No way in hell. : )
-
What they should have is a system to commend your opponents and you would get rewards for accumulating such commendations. It might cut down on some online shenanigans.

Will you be changing reality's meta as well?

Last year was like this for a while. My best players were the 87 Kendall and Damon from the Pre-Order packs. It was fabulous. I’d be very happy if they did that again. If they don’t, why even add guys like Juan Pierre into the game?
-
If they found a logical way to go about it, i think it could work. I don’t necessarily think you need to add more bench spots, but having to swap playing on and off your team due to fatigue mixes it up and brings another dynamic to the game. All for it
-
I think it's an awesome idea in theory, but I know that I'm wary of adding in yet another variable that has RNG ramifications

The only thing that I could see make sense and be reasonable is energy effecting a position player's speed.
For example, if you have Ty Cobb on first base and attempt to steal with him four pitches in a row, but your batter foul's off all four, then realistically, he would be somewhat winded and his speed (as slight as it may be) would be slower than if he made it down there on the first try. Same idea if Ty Cobb is sprinting as fast as he can and beats out and gets an infield hit. He may be a bit winded if he attempted to steal on the very next pitch vs. a scenario where he walked on four pitches and attempted to steal on the very next pitch. Hoping that makes sense.
Aside from that, they don't really do anything to impact their energy level. Pitchers are obviously the only ones that exhaust energy every single pitch. That's why position players remain in the starting lineup throughout the year, so as long as they avoid injury and maintain performance level, but never because of energy or being 'tired.'

They did this years ago before DD, where you rated your opponent based on the in game experience. They removed it because sore losers would abuse it and damage your reputation which could ultimately lead to a temporary ban of online play if you reached a certain reputation level. I think bringing it back would be great if the SDS team would actually review the game footage and determine whether a bad game rep was actually warranted.

The problem with that is, that takes a lot of manpower to manually review game footage, even if we were talking about Madden and EA level of employees, it still would be not enough manpower.

I don’t disagree, I was just pointing out that they had reputation system years ago but dumped it because of the abuse. The only way to eliminate the abuse is to have oversight of the system and yes that would require manpower that is probably best used elsewhere.
