Relief pitcher in closing role

Will using a relief pitcher as the closer in your pregame bullpen affect how he pitches as if it were his secondary position? And vice versa for a closing pitcher in any other role then? It doesn’t say anything, but I used Mo out of a setup role and he got crushed over and over again so I stopped using him and I have recently put him in as the closer and he was hitting spots much better. I have Wade Davis (RP) in as the closer this game, I want to see if he’s as efficient as usual. Any opinions or has anyone seen this happen to them maybe? I use a lot of closers out of the relief role and I’m starting to change them in and out of roles every time they’re gonna pitch to look for a difference.

No difference in their stats. It could just be that Mo is coming into a higher leverage situation in the 8th as a setup man or something like that, but there are no stat changes for relief/closing pitchers whether they’re starting, relieving, or closing.
