I was bored, so I wrote an article on the Mets free agency. Let me know what you think!

So, obviously you have the big 4 free agents of the 2020-2021 MLB offseason: JT Realmuto (C), Trevor Bauer (SP), DJ LeMahieu (2B), and George Springer (CF).
The Mets recently freed up $24 million with the suspension of Robinson Cano.
It also helps that they have a new owner, Steve Cohen, who is willing to spend a lot of money this offseason. There is a chance that they sign two of the big four, but we will get to that later. For now, here is why each top free agent fits with the Mets.

    Bauer:
Trevor Bauer, the reigning NL Cy Young award winner, is probably the most sought after free agent on the market this year. He posted 1.73 ERA in this shortened season, with a 0.795 WHIP. He had recently been traded to the Reds from the Indians, and he made the Indians regret that trade. He got $17.5M in 2020, and is guaranteed to get more than that this year. So, now we ask ourselves the question. Does he fit with the Mets? YES. This would be a perfect signing for the Mets, and Mets fans. He would fit into a rotation currently featuring two time Cy Young award winner Jacob deGrom, Marcus Stroman, and Seth Lugo. The Mets certainly have enough money, and this would give them one of the top rotations in baseball, hands down.

    Realmuto:
JT Realmuto, the two time all star, is looking for someone to pay him. He posted a .266 average this season, with a .840 OPS. He is known more for being fast, and being an excellent fielder., which is very valuable for a catcher. The Mets will be getting a new catcher this offseason, it is just a matter of who. They gave recently been in talks with James McCann, a catcher who played for the White Sox this past season. Realmuto got $10 million last year, and is due for more this coming season. Personally, I feel that Realmuto is not the right move for the Mets. Though he is a great catcher, he will be pricey. I think that you would be better off signing McCann for less than Realmuto, and then getting two of the other four free agents.

    Springer:
George Springer, the Center Fielder for the 2017 Houston Astros, who are known for cheating their way to a World Series in 2017. Despite getting help from trash cans, George Springer is still a very good baseball player. In 2020, he posted a .265 average and a .899 OPS. Average wise, he declined from a .292 average in the 2019 season. Obviously we can't take his 2020 stats very seriously, or anyone's, due to how weird of a season it was. In 2020 he was paid $21 million, around the amount of money that Robinson Cano was due this year. So, they are basically paying for Robinson Cano, as he will probably get around $24-26 million, depending on how COVID affects the market. Therefore, I think that this is a perfect signing for them. You can put him in Center Field, and get a solid defender and hitter. Due to his salary going to be around the salary of Robinson Cano, this basically means that nothing happened, money wise. You still have the money you were going to spend to get someone like, say, Bauer.

    LeMehieu:
Our last player, DJ LeMehieu, is who I personally think the Mets have the least chance of signing, and the least need. DJ LeMehieu posted a .364 batting average, winning his second batting title. Along with that came a 1.011 OPS. If I had to guess, I would say that LeMehieu is going to resign with the Yankees. I also think that the Mets don't need him. They have Jeff McNeil, who posted a .311 average in this shortened season. McNeil is also getting NOWHERE near the amount of money that LeMehieu wants. This is another reason that I think the Mets stay away from him. Nothing against DJ, as he is a great player, but he does not fit in with the Mets as well as any of the other free agents.

    Final thoughts:
Bauer: Would work really well with the Mets, and would make their already good rotation even better.
JT: Would be ok, but not the best. Would be an upgrade for James McCann, but in my opinion, isn't worth paying that much more, especially with the other free agents out there.
Springer: I think that this is a great fit for the Mets, filling in there outfield, and getting even better as a team.
LeMehieu: If the Mets could get three out of the four, I think that he would be the one that they choose not to have. It just doesn't make a lot of sense to sign him.

I would love for them to sign Bauer and Springer. Springer would allow us to move McNeil to 2nd to replace Cano and Bauer qould allow us to have the luxury of sending Lugo to the bullpen if we don't get enough help in free agency.

I would also love for the Mets to sign Liam Hendricks. Wouldn't be upset about Tanaka either as far as non top tier free agents.

He has been pitching for the last few years with a partial tear in his UCL. Its just a matter of time I think for him. Too risky.
