Stealing Wth??
-
Been trying to increase my player's stealing attribute during Spring Training. He has the speed of Hermes, so that part isn't an issue. What is an issue is the game screwing me over, royally, at every turn.
I'm talking about throwing pickoffs without warning. Manager ordering me to steal in situations that end up going horribly wrong and I get to minus signs next to my steal attribute. Making a steal attempt on a line drive which magically turns out to be a lineout double play. It has me swearing like a sailor.
The only way to make gains in this is to get good jumps and steals, but it only gives me one + for each time. When I screw up, it takes away two or more. One step forward, two steps back.
I'm tired of this garbage. Is there any way to increase my stealing without a high blood pressure?

what you are talking about happens on most attributes. in fielding if you throw to 1B accurately you get + and if you pull the 1B off the bag you get --- and i believe there are others. The one that bothers me is when my guy is on 2B and another runner on 1B and there is a ground ball to the left side of the infield my guy gets tagged on a force play and I get -- on base running aggressiveness

Same here with the -- on BR aggro. Sometimes it'll take that amount from BR or stealing for no reason. i.e., I'll start running home from third when I know the hitter is gonna be out (to increase my stealing), and he flies out and it docks skill progress from me. Just why lol

Question: when you say Managers ordering you to steal, what does that look like? I’ve not seen it in years. Am I missing signs or something?
With regards to the pickoffs without warning, keep your finger on L1 before the pitcher sets, and watch him like a hawk without blinking, always. If you’re on the ball, you’ll get back in time (unless you literally nod off like I have and wake up in the quick play screen). I actually quite like the unexpectedness of it. Keeps me on my toes.

I believe the mgr ordering you to steal flashes on the screen.
I had one of my players on 2nd base the other day.I lean the left stick left so I don't get picked off and kept an eye on the shortstop. He was in the picture faking like they were going to try to pick me off.Out of nowhere the 2nd basement comes in!Because I'd been prepared I barely made it back.First time I'd seen that. -

I never see a cutscene or anything where the manager gives a sign, and I've never risked looking in that direction while the pitcher gets set. All that shows up is the "Manager says to steal" window that shows up on the right side.

You know, not once have I seen that in TS19 or 20. I am sure I used to see it in the olden days (pre-16) though.
I wonder why I don’t get that window, I’ve used outfielders, infielders and catcher. And pitcher.

Keep the left stick held back. I usually hold R1 and lean to get a better jump. Best trick is to watch their catcher and not their pitcher. The second the catcher makes the slightest movement, move the left stick up. That's the way I get good jumps on RTTS. Good luck, mang.
