Last year SDS announced Javier Baez as the Show 20's cover athlete on Friday, October 25. That was also the night of Game 3 of the World Series.

Could we be a week away from the Show 21's announcement?
The obvious choice is Tatis, but is it too obvious??

The only complication with Tatis is, they can't give a 99 pre-order bonus of him, that's the only thing that gives me pause. I'm not saying that's their main consideration when picking, but say he is the cover, what is the pre-order bonus?

I was thinking the same thing.
But this is a big year for SDS. Its not only the first year of a new generation, but it is also the first year of multi-platform.

They need a huge name to generate interest and buzz.
Who besides Tatis or Trout will do that?
Assuming they stick with a current player as the cover athlete.

They could shock us all and go with Clemente or Jeter. (The 2 most buzz generating names from retired players).
But here arises another issue, a cover athlete needs to do the media stuff and advertising. Clemente for obvious reasons cannot and I don't think Jeter will do anything to distract him from his work with the Marlins.

So that leaves me with one guy that is everywhere, generates buzz and knows how to market....ARod.

Arod would create buzz and can def market himself, but I feel like he's also to polarizing, plenty of people dislike him.

So the natural fit is the best player to ever step on the dirt. Randy Arozerana. (Obviously kidding, but if you have seen his RL card prices, people are treating him that way lol).

If I had to take a stab and guess, Mookie Betts? Plays in LA, arguably a top 5 player, doesn't have a 99 in the game. (2018 MVP flashback pre-order?), generally liked throughout baseball.

The large gap on the content calander leave some question Mark's on what's happening in those 10 days

A cover announcement could be one of them

Guaranteed not to be a Blue Jay.
Lewis Brinson has a better shot.

They had Griffey recently though so I’d be surprised...

I think Jeter would be a real good choice. I hate the Yankees, but I know a great player when I see one. Yeah, old school...but he really was the best shortstop in the game until now. If not Tatis, give it to Jeter.

If they offer Jeter; how do they make him a 99 and potentially a better rated 99 than POTM Tatis?

Not a cover player, a pre-order reward. It was a joke anyway...

Well there is always a chance that they go back to a Canadian cover but hopefully that fad is gone and never comes back

I think it's gonna be John Schmoltz, we could use another 99.

Are we sure this year's pre-order bonus is going to be the cover athlete card? I'm not.

Remember, we're headed into Year 1 of cross-platform. And if you standardize pre-order bonuses across all systems, that'd mean giving a 20 Tatis to every XBox/Switch order to use in a non-existent game.

I think this year all the pre-order bonuses will be for use in NEXT year's game, not this one.

If I would be part of their marketing team, I would do both. It doesn't cost anything to give a card to current gen/MLBTS20 players and any pre order that comes from it is a bonus. They could very well do a nice promotional pre order bonus to use in next year's game/next gen consoles alongside with it.

The only argument against this is Sony will want to keep gamers on their platform so they will likely dangle a very nice preorder treat to keep people engaged to the Sony platform. It's really the only major tool they have at their disposal to do that right nowbolded text
