What makes Live Series Luis Robert a gold. To me his attributes don't say he's a gold. He dosen't really excel at anything. Yeah his speed is a 92 but I dont think that alone should make him a gold when when his stealing and BR Agg is definitely middle of the road when they don't even get up to 90. How does their rating system work?

I know right. Just has to be the balance I guess. A bronze hitting and silver defense equals Gold. One of his powers is above 80, fielding is 87, reaction 83, speed 92 I guess that balance is just enough to get him to an 81 overall.

Fielding is very important to overall in centerfield. Kevin Kiermier has been gold for 4 years and is not at all a good hitter

Ahh true. Even Byron Buxton. And now Buxton is a diamond and has only one good hitting attribute. Pwr vs R at 88. But fielding, Arm, reaction and speed are all great. Very similar card to Robert just slightly better in the fielding and speed numbers.

Well I just wish they actually explained how these attributes factor into the overall. I know they use a formula but still it doesn't makes sense. For me I would say at least 2 attributes would have to be 90 or above for a players overall for them to be a gold. Then 3 or more for them to be a diamond. Idk that just me and my idea. I posted on a forum on reddit and people got all up in arms and offended that I didn't understand how Luis Robert was a gold.

That would be a bit silly to place a restriction like that, that would mean under your theoretical rating system, if someone had every single stat at 89, he couldn't be a gold.

SDS’s infatuation with him does. There’s no other legitimate reason. The guy hit below .100 for roughly half the season but SDS actually increased his rating during that time.

For a quick comparison to show how out of whack some of Robert’s number are, he and Bellinger currently have the same RHP contact (58) even though Bellinger hit .252 against righties this year and .290 combined against them over the past three seasons. Yet because he dipped this year they tanked his RHP contact number down to 58. Robert hit .221 for his only MLB season against RHP and somehow has the same contact number.

If they gave us the actual formula, people could calculate exactly (instead of informed guessing) as to who was going gold/diamond and manipulate the market.

I’ve wondered how ratings work too. I was looking at someone yesterday who had all low 80s fielding numbers but was diamond fielder (on the card). How does that work? Is diamond not 85 and up?

My favorite early on was that Corey Ray prospect card. Was bronze hitter, bronze fielder, not super fast and was an overall gold.. I’m sure they have a formula. But I’m also not sure they don’t just make the cards the overall they want.

Agree, I keep striking out this guy. Every time I face him, I remember the time he broke his wrist while diving for a catch at Comerica. Poor guy, it wasn't pretty.
