Does faster internet matter when my opponent has bad connection in RS play?

From what I've seen, since I have upgraded my internet is it makes pitch speeds more manageable for you and your opponent when you are the home team.

I could not play until this year due to trash internet. Although my connection speed was fast it also matters how your ps is connected to said internet.

I do notice now when I am playing someone with a poor connection. There are def lags for example when a pitch is incoming at I swing. It “freezes” for a second.

Nonsense, internet speeds play a negligible role in connection quality. Online gaming doesn't require all that much bandwidth. What matters is ping which is based on a couple of factors, like the activity levels on your network and your location in relation to the game servers.

Means everything. I downgraded and the game is no longer even enjoyable online. It certainly doesn’t give you the Demise boost or hinder your opponent, just yourself lol

Game isn't enjoyable on wired fiber either. Either my internet sucks or the answer lies somewhere in between. My game plays a little better on mobile hot spot than wired fiber.

As long as your wired and have good upstream and downstream levels along with a good monitor or tv on game mode is all you need.

This is not true at all. I'm baffled by how many people in this thread do not understand how basic networking works. Ping is all that matters, always has and always will.

Here is your lesson for online gaming. Just like raesONE said, ping (other things too like packet loss, jitter, etc) is what matters in online video games. Many things can effect ping including network traffic, routing protocol, etc.

Upload and download speed only matters how much traffic your internet can handle. Online video games only need a small amount (like 3 mb down, 2 mb up for example or something like this). If you have a 5 mb down, 1 mb up connection, think of that like a one lane country road. 1 gb up and down, think of that like a 6 lane super highway. That is why I say it could be my internet causing me problems. You can have high upload/download speeds and have a terrible online experience or vice versa depending on traffic, routing protocols, etc. A low upload/download speed can have great experiences.

Say someone in KC is playing someone in Florida peer to peer. For one instance, say for some reason my isp's routing protocol takes my packets 12 hops (from KC to Wichita to Dallas to other hops and finally to the person I am playing in Florida). Say the Florida person has 10 hops due to routing protocol at a much more efficient rate (better route, no bottlenecks). The KC guy will have a worse experience to no fault of his own.

SDS uses peer to peer instead of dedicated servers because it is much more cost efficient.

I use to work for a cable company, Ping is very important, but as far as what you can control to have a decent ping and other factors are as follows. If you use fiber or whatever you area offers, you want to check and make sure your downstream and upstream numbers are in spec, You can do this by a quick google search. this often times plays the biggest factor in packet loss and ping response. Most times changing spitters or removing splitters or running new wiring can help. this is what you need to do to make sure your setup is going to perform as best as possible. First check upstream downstream numbers. If those are good I would set your modem/ router dmz to your IP address of your PlayStation. Make sure your hard wired. Also, the show plays best in 1080p in the ps4 settings. Also make sure your tv is set to 1080p. In the ps4 settings make sure the game is set to faster. Wireless controllers work better off of Bluetooth for some odd reason over wired, only for the PS4, not Xbox. When it comes to TVs and monitors, monitors are better. If you have a tv, make sure all extra processing is off. Like dynamic contrast, motion blur etc. make sure that you are in game mode. Do not run hdr or 4K for the show, only 1080p. Fps will be much better than 4K unless your playing on a Monitor, then 4K is fine. If you follow all these steps you should be fine. If your still having problems, as someone has stated, it may be the area your in that has really high ping connecting to mlbs servers. At this point there is no real solution. But most time these steps with assure you that you have the best experience possible. One more note. Cable speeds do not effect your online performance. You don’t really need very fast speed to enjoy online gaming. The only factor high speed does is allows faster download and upload times. It can also help when running multiple services on your network. But if your setup just for gaming, speed is not a major factor when it comes to lag or input lag. Hope this helps. Dedicated servers are a must to create a fair playing field across the board. As it stands, peer to peer will always have issues. Also, upstream and downstream is different than download speed and upload speed. It shows the noise levels in your service. If it’s to noisy or has interference, this will cause major issues in your service.

    It matters a ton.

Sometimes I have the magic connection, and I take. Other times... the same pitcher is unhittable and the other guy hits bombs off my best pitcher no matter what.

I hate online play like this. I was WS in previous years, but since changing to ATT (12mbps) I get inconsistent game play.

That’s why I quit and reset and try again a lot. It sucks.

Speed doesn’t really affect anything. Ping does
