Does anyone else feel like you should be waaaay better than you are? I’ve put in thousands of hours and for whatever reason, I’m just not that good.
-
I actually feel exactly the same way. I’ve poured my heart and soul into this game thus far, yet can’t get past the 600 level and my record remains hovering around .500. It’s my first year playing this game and don’t know if I can continue this year, much less future years. I feel like I gave it my all and reached my ceiling already.

For your first year hovering around 500 is a pretty big deal, don't sell yourself short.

This game is already known to be scripted/RNG, no surprise.

ROFLMAO, yep buddy you hit nail on the head. A select few are programmed into the game to win all the time while everyone else is destined to be just average or worse. Oh and by the way the term scripted is actually the opposite of RNG.

This is actually the problem, too many people think they are better at the game than they actually are and therefore they buy into all the conspiracy theories. I know its hard for people to accept but most of us will never even sniff the top 50.

I feel you, i cannot hit a fastball above 95mph, but i keep thinking that it might not be a skill issue, probably a latency issue??? i play in a 300$ 55 inc tv...i cannot see fastballs...

I get that way when RS determines I’m going to lose. I build the team I want in order to compete on RS. And then I have some scrub the other night swinging at everything, strike or ball. But somehow a change up in the dirt goes to the center of the strike zone for a 500 ft bomb. And all of my line drives do some witchcraft straight into someone’s glove each time there’s solid contact.

I understand to an extent the idea that some people think they're better than they are. At the same time, there are issues in the game that keep some people from reaching their potential in RS. I by no means believe I'm a top 50 player. I do believe that I could make WS, but never have. This year I've never put the time into trying. 716 last season was highest I've been. I play better on HOF than I do on AS, but it takes me forever to get out of AS.
Again, not saying I'm incredible, but I get "good" timing and have my PCI in good locations of the ball consistently, but I rarely get the HR results. This game plays HR or bust when it comes to winning games and I only seem to get HR on perfects or hits where my PCI is barely touching the ball. Perfects make sense, but the poor PCI HR don't. No conspiracy that the game is against me, but simply I cannot figure out what the game actual wants input wise to get HR.
As someone who has played The Show since 08, I'd just like more transparency on what makes the hitting engine tick if it's left as is. If not, I think two things would help hitting. One, reward good/good with more hits if there's not going to be adjustments to the engine at all. Two adjust the hitting to fine tune timing a little more. Give us Perfect just like it is (~.800 avg), but add Great (timing/contact) that has a higher rate of solid hits and avg in the .380-.450 range. Good (T/C) becomes more of the .280-.320 avg type results. Okay (T/C) that is low .200 and under. Lastly, PCI placement that doesn't touch the ball should be a swing and miss every single time, no exceptions. That has always baffled me.
Anyway, sorry this got super long, but I'd love to hear thoughts on this type of tweaking to the hitting engine.

I understand what you're saying but to me good/good rewards enough hits. People need to realize the best hitters in the league hit around .300. That means they fail 66% of the time. So a good swing(not a perfect swing) should result in close to .400 average or lower. Thats my opinion
-
The focus is always on hitting not being rewarding enough, but this year I feel like hitting was way too easy. Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean it was easy for me personally, I’m still the same .255 hitter I always was in years past. My struggles are of my own making for the most part, I’m just not a patient hitter. But the absolute disrespect shown to pitching this year, of all years, when they sold us the game on the back of the big three braves pitchers, Smoltz, Glavine and Maddux, is unreal. Maddux and Glavine are useless in H2H and the 27 versions of Smoltz are passable at best.
The best player in the game has an ERA of 4.86 (I’m not so upset about my crappy 4.40 ERA all of a sudden) and there’s not another player in the top 20 below 5.00. Most of them are hitting .350+ playing almost exclusively at Shippet and complaining about how bad hitting is and how they don’t get “rewarded” enough. I’m at a loss for words, frankly.
I know SDS have dialled the offensive onslaught back a little in recent weeks compared to the home run derby that we had to endure in summer, but now we’re back to seeing everyone crying about hitting not being rewarding enough. I don’t feel like pitching is rewarding enough, personally. It’s a bigger issue than hitting for me.
You see hard hit outs all the time in baseball. The best hitters only succeed a third of the time. You don’t see the most elite pitchers of all time execute perfectly and float a hanging meatball over the plate regardless, that’s why they’re elite.

Totally agree with you and I think that's where the problem lies. Again, I will say, I'm not a good hitter compared to players I've played with in leagues who are great hitters. In game the feedback consistently tells me my timing is good and my PCI is in the right place. The results though are a HR rate that's probably between 20-25 AB per HR and a batting avg that is almost always .250 online. Offline, on any difficulty level if I'm being patient I can easily hit .350+ and hit many more HR.
My issue is that the results I see online vs offline aren't consistent and I don't play enough to really figure out where the difference is. People always say play custom practice on legend against flame throwers. That's easy because online hitting feels completely different than offline hitting IMO.

I agree with the above. It’s frustrating at times but so is real baseball. My goal is to make it to the 700 level every year. I realize I won’t get much higher than that. Last year I made it (my first year playing) this year I haven’t yet but I am playing a lot less RS with showdown and more events. The majority of players will be in the 400-600 range. It’s a video game. Have fun

There is definitely a difference between the online and offline sliders that much cant be denied so I totally understand the frustration there.

I can relate to this post.. The last few days I've been matching with 12-0 banners, WS banners and just freak hitters in the mid 600s! like are there any mediocre players like me I can compete against? It's just not any fun right now...
-
I just wish things didn’t take too long to unlock players. If I was a better hitter then maybe I could do it. I am not saying make it simple, but takes to long for a mediocre player like me. Happy with the conquest maps and free packs. Eventually I will get bored and move on to a different game and forget about unlocking certain players. Overall, enjoy this sports game.

i just cant stand the scripted loses the computer hands you. last night up 2 bottom 8, New reliever walks 2 straight , could only pitch middle middle to get a strike, gets taken deep to lose the game. knew it was gonna happen, If the game got rid of the A.I assisted BS game play. and just graded people on their skill. people would play longer, my record is 96-64 690 high , can't get 700 to save my life

This is my first year playing DD and havent played MLB since '17. Obviously the first few months I sucked horribly. As I continue to play I see a huge improvement in my game especially with hitting. I only can assume i will only get better and am excited for that. I can tell you having patience at the plate is key. If im just trying to get through something quick and im swinging freely bad results usually happen. If i concentrate and take balls then good results happen

Those banners mean nothing. Last night I matched up with a guy that had a 5x flawless banner and proceeded to rip him a new one in an event game with him using [censored] near the same lineup i was. I struck him out like 6 time out of his 9 at bats and shut him out giving up 0 hits. Now I’m also a better than average player (average being .250 to .260 batting average and 4-5 Era)but what he was sporting led me to believe this guy was elite. He was far from it and probably cheated to get that banner. So that stuff means nothing to me in terms of the quality of the opponent.

Yea man thats where madden gets it wrong. They make it so any [censored] can get in to the top 100 with cheese plays. Top 100 or 50 should be for select few. I know Im not on that level. Well yet anyway. The only thing that irks me a bit is the reward for reaching WS because I wont get their but at least you can still buy it so you have an option
