You can also set up a custom practice, start off on a lower difficulty.
NO ONE OVER THE AGE OF 35 WANTS TO SPEND TIME PRACTICING A VIDEO GAME THEY JUST WANNA HAVE FUN LIKE CYNDI LAUPERS GIRLS....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9dz--yKDZY
WE HAVE THE MOST MONEY BUT THEY GEAR THINGS TOWARD THE KIDS SO PARENTS CAN GET THEIR CC'S RAPED( CAPS GOT STUCK- SORRY)
Weird, that's like the most reversed thing ever, usually people over 35 are like "Kids today don't want to work for anything", and now it's Adults over 35 don't want to take time be good, they want their hand held.
because its a video game man, back in the day you popped in a sports game you didnt have to learn a thousand different algorithms and watch youtube for hours you just played with what you had, this game you could be matched up with someone whos dedicated their life such as yourself to this game, when we played video games we one by best hand eye now days you have to practice? your life is short it should be spent doing something of value not practicing a video game.
Ah yes the ole "Why don't you do something with your life" bit.
I'm currently taking online college classes, I am writing a book, I write fantasy baseball articles as a hobby, living a good life, looking forward to when I can do more once this COVID stuff dies down, until then, I have plenty of time to play MLB the Show and that's ok.
This guy does all this and still has time to fact check people on a video game forum lol, I’ll never forget that.
Common. Probably takes 60 to 90 seconds to find it...

I'm 35
I use zone
I will say I would love seeing how I stack up with people in my age range, maybe 30-39
I consider myself pretty decent and due to my age there's no way I can compete with the young kids in this game.
39 here... I've only been playing a few months now. I think I'm 28-37 in RS so far. I can be super patient and hit well one night and then the next night I cant train my simpleton brain to stop swinging at balls. I would be down for an old man game if you want to play sometime. What's your H2H record?
I'm 75-21 and the record is not representative of my skill level. I think I'm way worse than the record. I've watched a few streams and those guys are ridiculously good. I struggle with small PCI movements, sinkers, and laying off pitches below the zone.
My strength is pitching and defense. I hit just enough to win some close games.
Help a brother out with some pitching tips? Cheers.
Read your opponent
Mix it up and don't get into a pattern
When you're up 0-2, for the love of everything holy, don't even TRY to throw an off speed pitch below the zone because their is some type of magical force that makes 0-2 pitches HANG and proceed to get absolutely BANGED -
I don't remember when I started doing zone. It does give you more control over what you're doing. The only time I have issues is when the fastballs seem overpowering, but then again sometimes a pitcher will be throwing 100 and it doesn't even seem like it's that fast. It can be hard to time the pitch and move to the location and decide that it's going to be a strike, when using zone hitting. That being said, it's kind of boring when you use directional. The only time I use directional is on some of the moments that require XBHs or HRs and on some of the Ruth HOF Moments when I can't catch up to the fast balls.

Wow... was reading through this and had something to say on the zone vs directional thing, but this got weird, quick. Not sure I want to offer encouragement...
I’ll say it anyway; you don’t need to play zone to win games. If you don’t like the idea of a PCI, don’t use it. You may have a lower ceiling, but if you don’t plan on making World Series, you can do just fine using directional.
I hate the PCI, and not because I’m old (but I am), but because I don’t feel like I’m playing a baseball game if I’m chasing things around with crosshairs. I don’t like the mechanics, and I don’t like the look of it. But you can work on timing, picking the right influence in the right situation, and you can still beat people more often than you lose without succumbing to the Missle Command style of baseball. Again, I’m not great, but I’m in the low 700s again and about 39 games over .500... you just need to find the right players (swings you can manage, and high vision stats are a must for directional) and you can put up runs.
It’s just a preference...
question, what type of swings do you use? contact, power? and do you play to your players strengths? like Gywnn, hes a contact hitter, do ya use contact swing? I use zone hitting, id like to use directional but i cant hit consistently

In res[ponse to your initial question...
On the N64, Ken Griffey Baseball (The greatest sports game of all time in IMHO) had zone hitting as the only option. In the PS2 days, MLB2K introduced the 'Swing Stick' as being more akin to real baseball and thus timing based hitting was introduced. It was an option in that game and quickly spread to other franchises. I myself would rotate each year between PS2 The Show and MLB2K baseball games.
When I started playing The Show on PS3 I stuck with the swing stick (timing based) concept and used the "Full Stride" option with the rationale that since each player's swing and follow through was different, this required significantly more practice and skill than zone hitting. The 'Flick Stick' timing based hitting was always just too elementary school for my tastes. I don't think the "Full Stride" option is even available for online play anymore.
By MLBTS 17 I had seen the light and switched to zone hitting. Zone hitting is better and it brings me back full circle to the glory days of Ken Griffey Baseball on the N64.

I only use normal swing, as, in my experience, anyway, I’ve gotten really poor results with both power and contact. But I still try to play to strengths with influence; with Vlad and Brett (and most power hitters), I go with either a pure pull or pull/fly (diagonally up toward pull side), or with contact guys like Carew and Ozzie, I influence toward the ground, going to the pull or opposite side, depending on the player and situation.
I’m certainly no expert, though. I’ve just found that to work for me, and have really only started to click over the last 30-40 games or so.
When I had Gwynn, I’d go down and away mostly, as he was money to the opposite side.

When playing franchise or RTTS (or used to, usually in Feb/March waiting for the new game) been using zone with analog stride. So fun. But unrealistic when chasing 102 outliers online.
-
Does anyone remember the original classic pure analog with stride timing interface? I thought it was going to be the future hitting interface for years to come. It just felt so immerseful . They really trashed it by taking away the " stride timing" aspect of it.
