Why is Ozzie Albies a free agent???

SDS

See question above ^^^

SDS

He's on the 10 day IL with a wrist injury

SDS

That doesn't make any sense though cause there are quite a few players that are on the IL but are still on their team, some who won't even be playing this year

If it was the 28 man roster that would make sense. Albies is still on the 40 man roster even though he’s on the IL.

SDS

It makes zero sense to have him as a free agent. Same as Osuna for the Astros. I know Osuna needs TJ, but same for Sale and he is still a Red Sock

SDS

Just stocking up on the cheap Albies for exchanges. He has to be added back to the Braves Roster. He is still on the 40Man roster.
SDS just screwed up... again!

SDS

They TRY to keep IL players on 40-man rosters (See Corey Seager, Kiermayer, Cespedes in previous years).

But the new expanded rosters + covid means there are a LOT more players than usual. And in order to fit in everyone that's on the active roster, sometimes sacrifices must be made.

SDS

Yeah it don’t make sense. Trey Mancini has legit cancer and is still on the orioles

There’s still a 40 man roster despite the roster changes this year. Someone going on the IL doesn’t affect the 40 man roster.

SDS

It’s to make room for whoever was added to the roster to not go over 40 in the inventory

Someone going to the 10 day IL doesn’t affect the 40 man roster. He’s replaced on the 28 man roster by someone on the 40 man roster. The same 40 should still be listed. Felix Hernandez is still on the Braves roster even though he opted out and isn’t on their 40 man roster. He should have been dropped instead of Albies.

SDS

Yeah, it really doesn't make much sense; especially when you consider the fact that they still have Felix Hernandez on their Live Series roster and he opted out of the season. You'd to have to think that a 70 OVR Felix Hernandez makes a lot more sense to take off the team and put in the Free Agents than an up-and-coming star like Ozzie Albies, who will almost definitely still play this season.

Roberto Osuna being moved to Free Agents is a bit more understandable but I still take qualm with it as someone who likes to use that card for Astros innings. They should have and could have moved Rogelio Armenteros, who is a prospect who will be out until 2021 at the earliest.

Tommy Kahnle is the only one that kind of makes sense since the Yankees really don't have anyone that could be moved that makes any more sense than Kahnle.

SDS

Sooo if I start an online league with Braves and he isn’t on the active roster, will he automatically show up when he’s off the IL? Or will I be locked into this team as it is today without him?

SDS

MLB expanded to a 60 man roster this year due to covid. I'm thinking it has something to do with that.

Whoever was added in the game they need to make room so they don’t go over 40

SDS

They’ve literally done this every year, they did it in 18 when Corey Seager got hurt

SDS

Although moving Felix might make more sense, technically he could be added to the active roster tomorrow (like Markakis did), while Albies could not, so they left Felix in and dropped Albies.

SDS

Opt in deadline is over so Felix is our rest of year

SDS

Meanwhile, Zack Collins in listed as a FA even though he’s been ok the active roster all along. They missed several other Sox updates in the last roster update, too

SDS

Everyone talking about the bigger rosters and 60 man roster don’t seem to know how Mlb rosters work. Yes there’s a 60 player pool, but there’s still only a 40 man roster. When a player on the active 28 man roster goes on the short term IL, they stay on the 40 man roster and are replaced on the 28 man roster by someone who is on the 40 man roster already. Therefore, a player going on the short term IL, has nothing to do with the 40 man roster. 40 man roster is only changed when a player goes on the long term IL, 60 day I believe, gets traded, gets DFA, released, and maybe 1 or two other uncommon occurrences.

We’re not, at least I’m not, talking about their official 40 man roster, I’m talking about the 40 players that the show has in their inventory for a team in game
