Controller Buttons not working for hitting

My controller buttons aren’t working for hitting, but I am able to pitch. Does anybody know how to remedy this?

Get a new controller. Also check your settings, you may be on analog hitting which uses your joystick instead of buttons.

Thanks. I purchased a new controller the other day. Played one game and everything worked. The next game I played I had the same problem. The settings have not been changed. I’m not sure what the deal is.
