Good Timing -- Isn't really good according to batter analysis
-
So like many I'll be miffed by Good Timing, Okay Contact with good PCI placement. So I decided after some Good/Okay results to pause and check out the Batter Analysis.
When looking at Batter Analysis, I viewed the timing label for balls. The "Good" timing was actually labeled JE or JL, not N.
So really the in game feedback is showing you Good/Okay, but really your result is Just Early/Okay and Just Late/Okay.
Just think this might quell some frustrations with feedback and seemingly good input that single have better results.
-
That’s still a huge issue though. Makes it hard to make adjustments to your timing from pitch to pitch if the feedback isn’t accurate

In terms of a “Perfect” response, it would make sense that it’s JE or JL. What is “Good” in relation to “Perfect?”
It’s obviously not perfect, so you would have to technically be either “Just Early” of Perfect, or “Just Late” of Perfect... ️

I said it in my post... N... N is good timing.
N = Neutral.
JL = Just Late.
JE = Just Early.
P = Perfect. -
Right, and you also said that “The "Good" timing was actually labeled JE or JL, not N.“
N, in this equation should not exist. And based off the information you told us it does not.
Because either you are “Good” Timing, which is either JE, or JL. Or you are N, which in relation to the standard, that means you’re “Perfect.”
I’ve said it from the release that, “Good” doesn’t exist anymore with the existence of perfect. Either you are Good Early, or Good Late. Because the whole equation is based off of what is now a “Perfect” response.
-
I have definitely noticed that the system says I was good but I felt like I was slightly late and the contact showed that to be true.

Perhaps i should clarify...
In the instances of Good/Okay, the analysis timing was JE or JL, not N.
N still exists in the analysis, most notably in Good/Good. N is certainly in the game.
P is Perfect, which is even better timing than N, and required for Perfect/Perfect.
The point is if you are receiving Good/Okay with good PCI placement, it's because when you go to batter analysis the timing is really JL or JE. If the timing were N, you would have gotten Good/Good. The in game feedback is considering JE, JL, N all the same category and resulting in your Good/Okay outcomes when your PCI placement is good, but your timing is actually just early or late.

It would be nice if the devs cared enough to address our issues via stream or something.

I completely agree.
But when I came across this I figure this might help quell some frustrations and help explain what's going on. When I see Good/Okay now I know my timing is off and I know if it's early or late depending on where the ball is hit, or by checking (which I'm not going to keep checking online).

This has been addressed before, I believe first in 18 when they opened the timing windows from 17 and discussed it in the per release streams. Essentially what happens is the range of swings that get good timing feedback gets expanded. So some swings that were just early or late now register as good timing in the feedback.
You are correct though the batter analysis will tell you exactly what timing you had. Generally good/okay is the result of decent PCI placement but just off timing. If I see good/okay and it looks like my PCI placement was good I assume it was my timing and adjust from there.

But Good/Okay means good Timing. Okay Contact. How can your Timing be both good and off at the same time?
-
I’m of the opinion that timing labels have just as much RNG as everything else in this game.
-
Early/out in front is the one I dont understand. Out in front is not a contact feed back. Its timing.
-
If they could just fix pci outcomes (contact) the game would be less frustrating. No ball completely in the pci should ever be popped. No ball outside the pci should ever be good.

It's only good timing if you had an N in the batter analysis. You could have JE or JL but still get "good" from the in game feedback.
-
Wondering if SDS didn't update the swing feedback when they changed the timing windows. That would expkain why it displays good when it should say just early or late. The timing windows and feedback are not synchronized.

I think of this one as, you start your swing thinking it's a fastball, but it's actually a breaking ball, swing timing is early, but the batter decelerates his swing to make contact on the off speed pitch. It's a variation to explain a weak contact.

Was looking at this the other day, and I agree. It's good feedback. If only we could get that live in-game and didn't have to check the analysis to see it. It would help adjust on the fly.
Basically I see the N-P correlation as this: You're only going to get a P when you have perfect-perfect, which is perfect timing and, supposedly, perfect PCI contact. The N is still in place for things like good-good and good-squared. So, in essence, you could have "perfect timing" without perfect PCI contact and that's when you'll get the N instead of the P. it's a result of your PCI contact with the same timing.
That said, it would still be nice if a good-OK that gets you a JE or JL timing analysis would show it in the batter feedback. I've wondered for quite some time if the feedback in general was just off at times.
