I agree. And giving Torre(A HOFer) a 98 is fine compared to them going to be giving Elsbury a 97-98. Elsbury had one phenomenal season and was below average the rest of his career, and is probably the worst contract in history besides Bobby bonilla
FYI Torre was a Hall of Fame Manager not a HOF Player (Big diffrence).
He was an All Star caliber player for most of his career. Which makes him very good but not great.I realize that, but you got to give some credit to him. It really isn’t that ridiculous that Torre gets a 98
I guess we agree to disagree.
We simply have diffrent standards for what greatness is. -

We simply have diffrent standards for what greatness is.I know Torre isn’t “deserving” of a 98. I just really don’t care about what the number in the corner of the card says compared to most people. I think people take a player’s overall way too seriously on here. Say you have a 98 Joe Torre, a 99 Piazza, a 99 Bench, a 96 posada, 99 Posey, a 99 Gary carter, or a 98 Yadi to choose from to play catcher. Torre will be the last choice from that list to use almost every single time. Everyones expectations are way too high when it comes to content. They aren’t going to release Babe or Jimmy Foxx this early and they aren’t going to repeat bosses from last year. I don’t like that Elsbury is very likely going to be a boss, but Torre really isn’t that bad of a choice in comparison

It's not about playing Torre over a 99 Bench or Piazza, but rather Torre being a better card than a 96 or 97 player card, that he was never better than. 98s, and especially 99s, should be reserved for the best players in mlb history. I've been complaining about this since the potms, but it seems there aren't enough people that actually care about ratings.

Thats because the last time that 98s and 99s were reserved for the all-time greats was the immortals in 18. There is only so many all time greats they have the rights to. Do you want to face the same lineup every single game?

I love it. That 93 Torre last year was criminally overlooked.
Seems like SDS is making up for some of their mistakes in 2019. Carter and Torre both deserved SS cards and never got them, so they made them bosses this year. And they gave us a free chipper after last year’s outrage.

The rating metrics in this game just keeps getting worse, there is no logic whatsoever.

Ellsbury was genuinely great that year, did you even look? Dude put up numbers that have been some of the best ever to not win an MVP in the past two decades

Don’t bring up Joe Carter again, I don’t want to start the whole argument again but he was just barely above average

Yeah and he is the straight up definition of a one year wonder and both of the fanbases he played for hate him. They could have easily just stuck with the 91 overall or whatever allstar card he gets for that season every year

It's a signature card fro Torre so it is cherry picked stats from any year of his entire career if I remember correctly. I am certainly not going to compare it to a single year card or even a multi year card like a prime. His MVP year (1971) with St Louis was impressive (although he was a 3b that year) so when you take those stats and add in his 36 HR from 1966 and his 36 doubles from 1964 and add in his Gold Glove defensive stats from 1965 it is not hard to see how he rates a 98 as a catcher.

Then Babe Ruth should get a 150 rated SS diamond if you include his best offensive stats and his pitching.

Lol. Are you sure? Because it sounds like you do want to start the whole argument again.
I don’t have any opinion on Joe Carter one way or another. My point was that he was the only preorder diamond last year that didn’t eventually get an SS. I’m not a blue jays fan, but I would have felt a little miffed if my team was the only one that didn’t get an upgrade.

Another Brave and an inflated 98. Yay. The only one I’m interested in is Felix. Hope he’s prime or sig. originally I was thinking maybe a 95-97 that could be prestiged to 97-99. But if Torre is a 98, who knows.
I imagine most people will be going Felix unless they make the decision to sell and Torre/Ellsbury are rarer/more expensive.
Another thought. Instead of Ellsbury, it could be Damon.
Damon would then throw of Felix cause he doesn't have 300+ steals
someone would need a GG...don't think Damon had one

If Ellsbury is getting a 97-98 hopefully they finally give Harper the 99 he deserves for his MVP year

Yes, Harper will and should get an awards card for 2015, just as Donaldson gets his 99 mostly for the same year (plus a few other great ones)
They should really give out mvp cards for lots of these guys who have won recently
